...or is my memory completely faulty?
Probably not. She was (also) with Joola for some time, yes. Joola in fact made this one for her:

Hi Friends,

How does Pro player earn money and what level of player someone has to be to get to level that they can earn money from playing?

Who takes care of all the expenses that player has to incur, and what level that are taken by Sponsors or state, country?

It's cool to think about how pro players earn money, but when you compare it to something like casino games or poker, it feels a bit more unpredictable. For example, in games like blackjack or roulette, the stakes are higher, and players can have a much faster way of making money or losing it. But the grind in table tennis is more about consistency over time, with a steady flow from prize money and sponsorships. If you're into games of chance, though, there are places where you can try your luck with big jackpots and betting. Check out kaszinó üdvözlő bónusz if you want to explore some exciting bonus deals and casinos that offer a chance for a quick win. Table tennis might take longer, but the rewards come from hard work and skill, while casinos throw in a bit of instant thrill!
Thanks,
Coolchap
league contracts and club salaries are often more reliable than tournaments. Top leagues in China, Germany etc pay better and give some stability.

most tt clubs in europe are not profitable entities.
and they need to sustain expensive halls, playing equipment, coaches, etc.
how do they make it?
the government gives them the halls and money to run the club.
a part of this money goes to the paid players (if there are any) and to the coaches.

in other countries where the state is not so present the sport does not develop so much.

What level of professional? And from what country? Many top 10 players from various countries don't make any money outside of coaching locally. If they want to play internationally, it is like setting money on fire. Even if they want to play in their own country, it is like setting money on fire but the fire isn't as big.
Even the n°300 player in France earns money for league games. Most countries with WTT representation have their top 10 players earn money playing in leagues.
