Actually I looked up this name "Mende", apparently it really is a Japanese surname. Although it's far more common as a German surname.

They have had Chinese coaches for years. According to Kihara, she got interested in learning Chinese herself.

I mixed up SONE Kakeru with KAYAMA Yu, whose parents are former CNT players.

Mende/面手, which means face-hand, should be Japanese.

Table tennis players seem to have no hunger for money. Gozy of France confessed he lost money a lot and zero profit while playing in WTT events.
