Oh man, Japan men's team drew Taiwan in their group. What's the format after the group stages? Do only the winners make it to the knock off stage? If so that's a rough draw for both team.

Based on the provisional schedule, after the group stage is the round of 24. So I'm guessing top 3 from each group goes through with the top scoring team from each group getting a bye in the first round of the knockout stage.

For some reason it feels strange to me that Taiwan's women's team is ranked 4th and S. Korea is ranked 5th. I feel S. Korea should be 4th if not 3rd.
teams world ranking is now different.
in the past, it was only individual players ranking added together, now it both individual + the team's prior ranking point gain in TEAMS only competition.

for Taiwan, men's team (WR9 now), they send a weaker team to Chengdu 2022 and didn't do too well, so got very little points.

and since Asia is so "heavy", your continental champs in Americas/Africa/Oceania etc will then also be "inflated", compared to Singapore or Hong Kong, who would likely win a teams match against the inflated higher rated teams from those continent, here is an example:

These are points from continental tournaments used in the team WR:
Singapore got 286 points
Hong Kong got 286
USA got 378
Nigeria got 436
Egypt got 500
Australia got 500
NZ got 436

So if you think individual world ranking is a bit off.
Well, welcome to teams world ranking, haha

Personally, I think that a TEAMS championship should include doubles (the truly team component of TT) in it's format. It's 3 players playing singles matches being cheered on by their compatriots. Oddly enough, the WTTC (non-teams) includes WD, MD, and XD.

well, they consider the doubles as "individual" events.
world teams has always been singles only.

However most of the worlds domestic teams event have doubles and that does add an exciting factor to it
Olympic Teams has your teams, but then only 3 players.

mixed teams world cup is a good idea for teams, but 2023's edition was rushed. Should of had a trial tournament and enough time to introduce it.

the way world teams is at the moment, you know who is going to win.
Singapore made the kill in womens a while back, while Japan almost did it last time round in mens (thanks to the "doomed" TH)
You need to have players good enough to take 3 points and not many countries today can do that, including if TH takes another 2, or LYJ takes 2, or Felix, Truls, etc. You need to have players good enough to take 4 points, for you to take 3 points

China:

Men's Squad: Fan Zhendong, Wang Chuqin, Ma Long, Liang Jingkun, Lin Gaoyuan
Women's Squad: Sun Yingsha, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng, Wang Manyu, Qian Tianyi
Interesting that Qian Tianyi was selected over Chen Xingtong, anyone knows why? Very happy for Qian tho she is one of my favourite female players
