There will be 5 representatives for each of the JNT men's and women's team next year in Sweden
will be qualified
- top Japanese player at the ITTF ranking in December (Mizutani/Niwa) and (Ishikawa/Hirano) should be contending for that place. There is still the World Cup, the German Open , and ITTF Grand Finals
- winner of the national championships (Jan2018)
- winner of the selection tournament
- top player against Chinese in 2017
- top player against top30 (ex-Japan) in 2017
in there are some slots left (same player meeting those criterias) they will award themselves the wild cards to the players of their choice.
For the selection tournament, the 5 best ranked Japanese in the ITTF tournament are not participating in round 1
round 1 has 20 players in 2 blocks of 10 players playing in mini-championship (9 matches) in best of 5
top 4 players of each block are qualified for round 2 where players ranked 2 to 5 will join as seeded players (so 12 players total)
round 2 will be on Dec24-25
round 1 has already started for womens. It will finish tomorrow, and will be followed by mens
