I don't want to sound blasé, but is anyone really surprised here? The supply chain for most consumer products is a black box for the consumer, so it would be prudent to assume the presence of a bad link somewhere.
Assuming otherwise has been proven to be naive time and time again.

That doesn't mean I approve of these practices. I also buy stuff that's too cheap to be true and by doing that I keep that system going. I know that and sometimes actually act accordingly, but basically I'm a hypocrite consumer like a lot of people.

It's also just not a realistic thing to expect consumers to be the moral police. A lot of people also have issues with what's going on in Gaza, Ukraine, child labor in Africa, slave/prison labor in the US, or numerous other things the Chinese government does. Are they expected to avoid products with metals from Africa, supply chain that runs through China or the US, produced with energy from Russia, and funded by money from Israel? Good luck with that.

It doesn't get old, does it?

Back around Beijing 2008, it was the sweatshops that oppressed and exploited the Chinese. I bet many of those reports were penned by journalists that didn't even know China had 56 ethnic groups...

Years later, some decided to go after them one by one, because why not?

Here is one such factory in Xinjiang, owned by a Chaoxinzu (never heard of this ethnic minority, right?) from Qingdao that employed Uyghurs, on the government's scheme to aid the region. After the BCI lies that got the entire sector swept up in, over 80% of the 1000 people (the one interviewed earned 2500 rmb vs 1500 rmb elsewhere) workforce was laid off.
