On Saturday 26th April, the teams had the opportunity to train on the main court on which matches will be broadcast on TV. Many of the players were very pleased with the playing venue, the German Federation has published reports of its team training in Tokyo giving details of the Yoyogi arena. They explained how in the main show court there are electronic ads, German player Timo Boll expressed how he is very pleased with the ads “I am all for having some technology in the arena, I think that it is good if the court has a modern look, besides this is how it has to be in Japan”.

Although the playing arena has been given many compliments, there is an element within the main court that hasn’t had a positive reception from the players. There has been a camera placed beside the net attached to the table on the main court, although there have been cameras at the tables in other tournaments, it has been said that this camera is bigger and players are worried that it may interfere with rallies.

The official Facebook page of the German Federation published a photo of a table with the controversial camera and added a comment which translates to the following, “The black thing at the right side of the net is a camera for TV broadcasting, on Saturday there were already complaints from players and team representatives because the camera and tripod may block the ball when players play extreme rallies diagonally. When Timo Boll was training with Vladimir Samsonov he experienced problems with this.”

There hasn't yet been any more information given regarding the cameras.
