Russian Players should not be on tour during the War.

And that some people believe wars are unethical and must have consequences.

Of course. But ALL of them please ;-) Not just those you picked. It's not a menu ;-)

You forgot North Korea
Looks like you like dictators
Not me!! Ask the USAmerican citizens about the 2 parties they have in power all these years (Republicans & Democrats) that have only minor differences in some domestic issues but they agreed to almost all foreign affairs, how many dictatorships & coups have funded all around the world.

There are many parties in USA. You free to vote every 4 years to any of them. Same as presidents. How many russians presidents you can list in last 25 years?

Sure, let's ignore the elephant in the room (Russia's ongoing war) and mention/blame those that happened when neither we nor our parents were alive ;)

What? You don't read what @tzifos writes? Is Palestine, Iran, Venezuela recent enough for you or not.

Nobody is ignoring the ongoing NATO war againt Russia, in which Ukrainians are dying, and some people get rich... You're bound to understand it soon or later...

ETTU shared the titular sentiment, CAS disagreed.

I, for one, am glad that Sidorenko is playing.

Serbian athletes competed in the 1992 Olympics when the regime of Slobodan Milošević committed genocide all over former Yugoslavia and no one made a huge fuss over it.
IMVHO, I think it is just common sense that athletes have a limited ability to influence things like this. That the athletes have left the country to participate in leagues in Germany, France etc. almost speaks for itself.

I get why people feel strongly about it, but the main solution in recent times has always been to not let the athletes play under the national flag and to also sanction those that make public statements or actions supporting the wars.

Russia has invaded my country, Ukraine, killing civilians, seizing Ukrainian territory, and destroying Ukrainian cities. The people of Ukraine have risen to defend their country. The Ukrainian Armed Forces, armed and ready, are defending our country from the invasion of russian marauders and murderers. Our air defense crews are shooting down russian drones and missiles that fly daily to kill us and destroy my country.
What NATO war with Russia? What are you talking about?

So how would you expect any of the athletes to fix a problem that has not been fixed for the last 25 years?

Everything is constantly changing, especially when something lasts longer than expected, like Operation Blitzkrieg and the Germans for some reason didn't play under their own flags.
Do you think it's important that someone like an athlete from the Third Reich was unable to compete internationally due to government actions over which he had no control?

It's easy for you to think about this now, being safe, but today a russian ballistic missile hit a residential high-rise building in Kyiv with a direct hit. Innocent people, children, many injured, bleeding civilians died. Many people were left homeless and at this time you are evaluating the performance of a representative of the country that created it
If I felt/knew that Sidorenko could do something, I would feel differently. In just about every country I know, he elections are determined by funding and news propaganda, I would feel said to be blamed for the actions of any government of a country of which I am a citizen.

I don't have illusions about Russia and it's system. I witnessed our socialism.

But what you are saying is heavily one-sided, and you are Ukrainian, so who am I to try to correct you... You have all rights to be angry and if you wish you to see it the way how you present it here, so be it... I can't help, and I'll will not try... For me, you are my Slavic brother...

@M51 That is OLD! Who can remember now these crimes and the UK & US bombers destroying a country in the heart of Europe?
Of course I don't agree with the Putin's acts, I don't agree with any military actions but I DO remember the US and NATO agreement with Soviet Union (at the time when Warsow Pact was disbanded) that countries members of that Union would never be part of NATO (including Ukraine) that the Europeans and US "forgot". I also remember the 2014 crimes of neo-nazi Ukranians (like Azov Brigade) against russian-speaking people of Ukraine (Odessa, May of 2014).
There is a LOT of grey between black and white so have your eyes and ears open and your mind ... as free as possible.

*As long as it contradicts your personal beliefs ;)
To the point where you deliberately twist my words to ignore the "I think" part.

One day you will have to accept that other people may have different opinions. And that some people believe wars are unethical and must have consequences.
I literally quoted you and literally wrote that differing opinions are fine.
And you write that I'm twisting things while telling me that I have to accept that differing opinions are fine, the very words I wrote quoted back to me as a shortcoming from me??
You are not even bothering to read my words

Show me a russian athlete who would call for Peace and an end to War! Athletes are afraid to do this, because calls for Peace in their crazy country are considered extremism. They are silent, supporting the murders and ongoing genocide of my people and my country with their silence. They have a passport of russia and silently support War and murders.

What do you know about the events of 2014 in my country? From what sources do you get this information? I am a russian-speaking Ukrainian, and no one in the world, except russia, has allowed a greater genocide against me and people like me. They simply cover themselves with the "protection of russian speakers" and destroy the cities of these russian speakers themselves and kill them in Ukraine
