The interesting thing here is that many of them are not playing at their best, seeing it's after the World Cup. It's become a contest of lower limits.

@zeio

I thought ISHIKAWA was playing very well this time against DING Ning 2-0 and 10-8 up (with a bit of luck at the end of game 1 and 2) but then luck was a bit on DN side in Game 3, and then she really collapsed mentally. Obviously, i don't exactly why but DN changed something and got used to KI 's tactics. Ishikawa had been dominating in BH rallies but it wasn't the case anymore, and instead of changing her tactics, it got worse and worse :-(

ITO is really fantastic, she's so strong mentally, she doesn't even need to do shout between points, she is staying calm. She is so aggressive it really feels the whole match depends only of her % of risky shots landing on the table. I hope she can break the wall of ZYL

ITO's power is M'immanent ! she's the new goddess of Table Tennis, and her number of worshippers is ever increasing.
Beware of the M.ITOmaniacs !
Itoi is having a fantastic tournament. The thing with her game is that its high risk/high reward. When her flat stuff is on, its very difficult to return. When she is off, well ...

I'm hoping she can beat ZYL. However, ZYL's game is better suited to beat Mima Ito with quick off the bounce counters to pressure Ito's timing and consistency. Should be a good final.

I need to rant about the seeding system. It's my understanding that players are seeded based on their ITTF rankings at the time of their entries. It would make more sense if the players would be seeded based on their rankings on the day the tournament started—and make necessary adjustments - if some player has a known injury that can affect their play, but doesn't withdraw, then do the right thing and lower their seed.

Can somebody please explain to me the "logic" behind the current seeding system?

any of those is an arbitrary rule. ITTF rankings takes 1 year sliding window of results. If you take the latest ranking then you're taking off the result of a competition 1 year ago. Because of the difference in calendar (one major open could have happened one month earlier than the current year), there will always be some cases where the adjustment would be "unfair"

Taking the ranking in advance enables (in theory) the organizers to make a draw in advance and advertise it early to attract viewers. In practice, they make the draw quite late.

As for injuries, if a player is injured then he'd better forfeit, ranking has nothing to do with it.

So i don't think that considering the ranking at entry time is unfair or stupid.

Hope for a great final.

FZD is now doing lobs, creative serve returns , chop blocks on top of his monstrous loops. XX on the other hand also seems to have raised his game. Never seen his BH that consistent ever. But I would still give FZD the edge to lift the title.
