Wow, your post has just made me think! Maybe we make ranking based on how many likes you have per post?

Dan, this might be the best possible indicator we have without time-consuming analysis.

Still, I believe this method to be flawed. It is still possible to amass a large number of likes, thus achieving a very high staus of POST to LIKE ratio, even without significant contributions. We make the assumption that a LIKE equates to some significant contribiution, but that is not always the case. I hit the LIKE on Carl's post several posts above out of admiration for his satire, not out of what it contributed to the forum.

I have a nearly 10 to 1 POST to LIKE ratio and I strongly feel that significantly over-rates any value I provide the forum. There are TTD forum members who i consider more valuable than I who have a 50 to 1 POST to LIKE ratio. Maybe my ration is like that as I do not make a large number of short posts that do not say much.

Therfore, I feel that although your idea has a lot of merit, and even is the best viable method to achieve the goal of recognizing quality and value to the forum. I still maintain that it can be a flawed method. Only some analysis over a body of work with sprecified and subjective crteria can be close enough to 100% effective, but even that can be a bit flawed.

Dan, you have almost 3500 posts and under 100 likes. That makes for a 35 to 1 POST to LIKE ratio making it appear you are almost worthless to the forum. We all know that YOU are the creator and managing force of this forum and your value to the forum is immeasurable by any metric. That is one example of why the POST to LIKE ratio may or may not be an efficient indicator of quality and value.

On the other hand, your other TTD ID "TABLETENNISDAILY" has about 600 posts and just over 100 likes, making for a 6 to 1 POST to LIKE ratio. That is a lot more indicative of your value to the forum, yet it is significantly different from your personal ID's ratio.

I totally agree with what your saying Der_Echte, you have put it very well and your right. Because you can get a like just for people pretty much saying thanks for your post. Perhaps TTD is best without any forum recognition... everyone is always on a level pegging... I need to have a deep think about which would be best :)

Very true, I have looked on other forums, and many forums just base forum recognition on post count.. Maybe we could base it on a number of things at once, but i'm not sure now hehe :D

How about, posts can be liked and disliked? Or could that get messy lol

Yes, that can get a bit messy, but it would be LULZ. Imagine quality posters with a negative like count.

Yeah just I seen it on some websites i was browsing where there was a like and dislike, or a thumbs up, or thumbs down option. It would be to hard to work out a reputation, thinking about it, dislike is not a good idea :) Lets keep everything, liked and positive :)

In my opinion, a dislike option is not good. Like on Youtube, I never dislike the things I don't like or hate, I just left it.
Besides, you want this place to be a positive place, open to all opinions, which means you can comment to give your opinion instead of disliking.
Also, there could be trolls and people that turn down others which just dislike everything.

Shrouded in secrecy, somewhere, Dan is busying himself with the idea of a NUKE button.

He isn't the type to mess around with the small stuff.

Haha very true! Nuke button which deletes your post :D haha.. similar to when you type Zerg Rush in google :)

I would like a "your mom" button ending a sentence with the quote ;)

Haha!

what about a "CHOOO" button instead of the like? :D

then the text could be: "Choooed 300 times in 300 posts" or any other numbers of course :)

Haha this is awesome! Would this be a good idea? Would people understand the reasoning, like non league players and table tennis enthusiasts who are unaware of the word Cho?

LOL yea we should have a CHOOO button.

Haha I am buying into the idea! Replace Like for Cho?

Despite being my idea, i think it is a great idea, and brings some humour and fun into forum (not that there isnt fun here) and i think most of the people know why "Choo", it doestn matter if pro player or enthusiast :)
Maybe u can make a sticky anouncement on the home and/or forum page, so people know :)

Also i think the ranking list is not quite right! Dima is on place 7 not 9 and Jun is not on 7 but 10 :)

This is true, it would bring and even more table tennis feel to the site to :) Maybe we make a new thread with poll to see what users think?

Yeah I will update the ranking widget asap :)

Haha! :) My only concern is people won't hit cho because they won't know what it means. Everyone is so used to understanding what a like button does.

What are other members thoughts?
