Why is this forum so obsessed with the Japanese women's team?

My guess is that people enjoy drama, and the current situation in female JNT does not seem that good. I'm not that diehard of a TT fan, I follow only a few players and almost never watch full matches, yet I still stop by the JNT threads from time to time. It's just an interesting topic, especially when you consider the JNT-CNT rivalry.

Also, I don't know Zeio, but he and a few other users seem pretty well versed in Asian TT lore, hence the increased traffic in JNT-related discussions.

Maybe because the talks of CNT is numb now, since its the same thing for the past (put number here) years.
there is a forum member that is anti japanese womens and will share a lot of content of them, but many times in the negative way.

we also have few forum members that are either living in Japan or familiar with Japan and they share JNT news (there is a thread about Japanese players).

and I think it also has to do with results, some Japanese chopper, I won't give names, is making a lot of headline news in the world of table tennis, and it is no brainer that it will also show up in TTD.

I like to follow women playing because their strength is more similar to mine. What they do as women is closer to what I can do than a professional man player.

I like to follow Japanese players, as well as Shin Yubin, Kim Kum Yong, Bruna Takahashi, Adriana Diaz or Sabine Winter. I follow them for the variety of sports; they have different playing styles, they have different costumes. But the main reason I follow them is because I like to see their emotions; I see people playing, suffering, enjoying, learning; and no, I don't see this in most of the Chinese women top players. I'm sure being cold minded is better for winning, but I prefer watching real people playing, as it's a more enjoyable spectacle.

Japanese women's TT blossomed with the success of the golden generation preceded slightly by Ai Fukuhara, Sayaka Hirano and Kasumi Ishikawa and then the generation itself was Mima Ito, Miu Hirano then Mima Ito then Hina Hayata. Their popularity also made TT more popular in Japan and the Tokyo Olympics and funding to support a good performance there helped TT as well. Other developments like the T-League and the fact that there is good insight/reporting on TT in Japan helps fuel fandom. But a lot of it began with the overwhelming international success of the aforementioned players who have been pretty much second only to China and on rare occasions Germany since the golden generation ascended.

Of course, there are other quirks here. But the biggest factor is that these ladies are extremely successful and there is more access to news about Japanese players than Chinese players on this forum, partly because we have more active members posting from Japan.

It's more interesting to talk about the challenger (Team Japan) than the favorites that win most of the time (Team China). I think we would actually talk quite a bit more about the N. Korean team (especially about Kim Kum Yong) except for the fact that they just don't enter WTT tournaments. The Japanese women have had pockets of success here and there: Mima Ito with Jun Mizutani winning XD gold at the Tokyo Olympics, Hina beating WYD to take bronze at the 2023 WTTC, Team Japan coming really, really close at the 2024 WTTTC losing 3-2 (Hina and Miu winning CM and WYD, respectively), and Japan beating China at the 2024 Asian Championships where Miwa beat Sun Yingsha in a dramatic comeback from down 0-2. And there's at least a couple of new entrants in this Olympic cycle (Honoka and Satsuki) that are making their mark. There are occasional upsets of China from other countries such as India, but most of the challenge is coming from Japan (and dark horse N. Korea).

I am not a fan of the top Chinese female players, but your statement is inaccurate and unfair. They are real people and they show their emotions. Check out the relief and joy on WYD's face after she won against Hashimoto at China Smash.

I echo @pongfugrasshopper's comments. China has been dominant for such a long time and a lot of people like to support and cheer for the challenger/underdog.

A community full of dirty old males…
What do you expect? 😱

Cheers
L-zr
At least I don't give a sh*t even if I'm old dirty and ugly. There are threads like that all over the muscians comunity, specially about girls playing guitar or bass with push ups and low neckline. If you want to talk about dirty old mens just read the sh*t out here

And most of them, males or females, play unplugged over their own pre-recorded tracks and they're just faking ! but the real problem is the sexual objectification of womens all over social medias, meaning here a woman can't just put herself in front of a camera playing REALLY live, no, she has to wear a sexy dress, to do all the make up, hairstyling, and so on, play on pre-recorded tracks and faking. It's just plain wrong. And it's because of us, dirty old mens !

I'm strictly AGAINST ONCE AND FOR ALL ANY SEXUAL FEMALE OBJECTIFICATION. What's happening with the Women's JNT, it's just that dirty thing ! really, we're just only a few steps away from asian porn, it starts like that !

Come on now.... If this was the case then this forum would be full of Szocs', Takahashi's, Christina Källberg's, Kaufmann's (and so on) photos and threads. Do you at least think that some people play a defensive game and that the best defenders at this time in a national level are the two Japanese girls? And that maybe some of us playing with their setups just because we love their game?

fixed!!! No-Anton here, he left the building!
