Ma Long retained the World Champion of men's singles on June 5th, 2017 in Düsseldorf.
Before WTTC, he experienced a hard time: old and new injuries after the Marvellous 12 Trials in March, an unexpected loss to a non-Chinese player in the Asian Championships in April, being sensitive to the new ABS balls, being passive and even dropping games in internal matches in the closed training in May, etc. Finally he overcame all the difficulties and showed us the best table tennis with other contenders in Düsseldorf.
Ma Long did not have a lucky draw. To get the trophy, he had to beat WR #10 Chuang Chih-yuan, WR #8 Timo Boll, WR #3 Xu Xin and WR #2 Fan Zhendong. He said to the reporters that he was very lucky to win the trophy. But clearly the victory does not rely on pure luck.

What do you think of Ma Long's performance in this WTTC? Please share your thoughts to win a "Grand Slam" t-shirt with Ma Long's logo. Here is what it looks like. It says "Teamwork makes the dreamwork". It is not on sale in Li-Ning's retailers. And only one size is available, Ma Long's size.

I must be a sourpuss, luddite or both. But I also am, have been, one of the people developing the core Internet protocols and reference implementations, and can't help but be opined here and there.

So sorry, but step (3) is out for me, and strongly so. Facebook considered evil, with reasons. These are explained better than I would in a few sentences in

Quoting jwz: "If you work for Facebook, quit. It is morally indefensible for you to use your skills to make that company more powerful. By working there, you are making the world an objectively worse place. I'm sure you can find a job working for a company that you don't have to apologize for all the time."

I'm not actively working to make the world an objectively worse place. It's bad enough as is.

ML vs FZD has to be the most interesting match. Though I really enjoy watching him play any player, as it just shows how good his game is. It's incredible to see how he's developed over the years although I've only really followed him for the last few years since taking table tennis more seriously. It's very cool to see how he's been able to overcome his mental issues in the game and of course developed his game more alongside that. I try to stay away from being a hardcore fan of any player, but of all players ML is one of my favourites for sure. He seems very down to earth, with a good head on his shoulders.. of course this is what you'd expect from such an accomplished player. I wanted him to win the WTTC again (though I did feel sorry for FZD) and would love to see him accomplish more before we see the end of his career.

ML's victory over FZD certainly was not based on luck. To me, it encompassed the high level of determination as well as technique. Despite having injuries along the way in the competition, he persevered. His thirst for perfection has always been clear with his wonderful record against non-Chinese as well as Chinese. His path to winning WTTC singles was not easy. In the earlier matches, he dropped 2 sets against KALLBERG A, and dropped 1 set against IONESCU O. I felt this was unusual for ML, as he often finishes matches 4-0 against non-Chinese players. At that time, I started to have some doubts as to whether ML can succeed in clenching the title, as FZD has proven himself to be a formidable opponent. However, as he goes on with the journey to victory, he again showed he was still in very much control, firstly beating Chuang Chih Yuan 4-0, and beating Timo Boll who is in his best form over the last few years in his home country 4-2. I often feel it is difficult when a player has to play against his partner in doubles, but ML was very professional about it, and he tried his best which honoured the sport as well as his opponent. After that, ML went on and showed that he is determined on defending his title, by beating Xu Xin (my favourite player) 4-0. At that point, I was very much convinced that ML can do it, even though XX was beaten, I was able to see the shinning skill and mental strength of ML, which earned my admiration.

Prior to the beginning of his finals against FZD, I felt that ML will push through and take the title. In the end, he managed to do it. Despite leading 3-1, and then being caught up to 3-3, and trailing 7-9 in the decider set, the superb quality of his technique and mental strength allowed him to become the Champion of the WTTC Singles the 2nd time. I do wish his greatness will continue, and winning a 2nd grand slam would be awesome!

P.S. sorry for my poor English!
