That 2-2, 7-9 edge was killer - good game by Diaz - maybe she needs the points to stay in the top 20 and is inspired lol.
A valid reason to start a thread with the title "Is Harimoto's reactions disrespectful to the opponent?"Anyone else find her entertaining to watch because of the comical and exaggerated reactions she makes after missing shots? I often find myself chuckling at the range of goofy expressions.
Hugo and Simon have been friends and club teammates for years, including this year in the Bundesliga. They even had the same personal coach for a long time. It is good to see Hugo winning these matchups but he is always vulnerable.Nice game between Hugo and Simon.
Hugo is strong mentally and physically, that despite Simon having a coach, he was able to come back from 0-2.
Now that Lin Yu Jun and Tomokasu Harimoto are out, I hope Hugo can take this title.
That is something he shares with Niwa and Mizutani, lol.LYJ is known for his return of serve, but Matsushima might be even better. Lots of brilliant returns to keep him and Miwa in that 2nd game.
His forehand is not as powerful yet but I'd trade it over Togami's brainless power shot everydaystill not convinced about Sora. I think he lacks power. He's not the next Mizutani, rather the next Niwa
Hopefully long enough to get through Hugo!Pitchford is in amazing form. But he has been in amazing form before, the question is how long he can keep it...
Japan XD dynamics is weird tbh, past pairs like Yoshimura - Ishikawa and Mizutani - Ito have the male player being the backbone not only for scoring points but keeping the morale high. Now the roles are switched, Hina's forehand was the scoring machine and her strong will carries Harimoto. Miwa has it better since Matsushima technique is more well-rounded to score but again his frail will dragged the pair down. The biggest thing I think is that Miwa has an XD partner that can grow with her and same with Sora - they are already one of the best XD teams in Japan.
XD is fundamentally about how dominant the male player can be and how well the female can defend the male opposing player's shots, even when the female is the relatively higher ranked player. I get the Harimoto/Matsushima optics but I don't subscribe to them. Those teams will only be as good as Harimoto can be vs the opposing male player, no matter how good Hayata looks in the rallies or how good Miwa looks. Harimoto also scores a lot of points on serve and serve return, people just focus on rally miss volume.Japan XD dynamics is weird tbh, past pairs like Yoshimura - Ishikawa and Mizutani - Ito have the male player being the backbone not only for scoring points but keeping the morale high. Couldn’t agree more, what a turnaround - he’s a different player! At this level he could beat Calderano and more!performance was remarkable. Where has this player been for the last two or three years? Generally sussed out by the European players (and Calderano), who relentlessly exploit his weaker FH side, and struggling to achieve top 50 level. But here his FH was suddenly fizzing and making him look like a top 20 player again. Whatever he took to aspire to this level again he should bottle it!
The forehands he made in that match were amazing. Completely unlike Pitchford to be honest. The movement to cover the angles hit a different level.Couldn’t agree more, what a turnaround - he’s a different player! At this level he could beat Calderano and more!
