WCQ shows to be a matured young man, confident and steady. I've been waiting for this to come the last 2 years and I'm glad the way he goes on.
Harimoto is doing great, but its obvious that he is still a child and his emotions prevail over, reflecting the game. The next 2 years will be very important for his maturation - physical, mental and as a player.

yes, they have been working on this problem
I guess with age maturing, the problem will slowly get better too.

I think in terms of tactics and strategy, he should of beaten Harimoto
Jha game, Lin just disappeared

It is still impressive with Lin only has support from family and 2 corporate, mean while Harimoto has millions of dollars of funding and the whole olympic outlook

rather he was the #1 seed, everyone expected him to win, all the Japanese media was around for his gold medal, it gave him a lot of pressure. I mean its not an abnormal result to lose to WCQ, especially today's WCQ, but thats not the Harimoto that we've seen win ML, ZJK, TB or JM for example

今天首局林昀儒開賽積極搶分，以11比6拿下，第2、3局都有機會拿下，但關鍵時刻失誤多。黃昶鈞表示，今天第一局打得果斷，但張本智和第2局開始壓制林昀儒的側身，兩人也在接發球上不斷想要變化，造成不少失誤。

LYJ's coach Huang Chang-chun said Lin played very decisively in game 1, and that he could've taken game 2 and 3, but Harimoto started to suppress his step-around. Both players kept looking for chances on receive and that led to many errors.

林昀儒表示，今天開局戰術執行奏效，但2局沒有延續，也打得比較保守，不然其實都有機會拿下來，後半段想辦法把節奏放慢，「他反手速度還是比我好，想要贏他，就需要把戰術執行得非常好」。

LYJ stated his tactics worked well in game 1, but he couldn't extend it in game 2 and started to play safe. Otherwise, he could've taken it. He kept trying to slow it down in the latter half, stating "his BH speed is still faster than mine, and I have to carry out the tactics really well if I were to win."

Money is a great factor, but money is not all. For different players money has different weight in the development equation, depending on the talent and the personal capability ceiling. For someone you may spend millions where much less would be just enough for the best, and someone else may be still mediocre no matter how much you spend on him.
Looking at Kanak Jha I see really a LOT of training, may be very expensive training, but does he have the talent needed to implement this training in his own interpretation? In his play i don't see the smooth confidence of the talent, but rather a thinking and searching what he is trained. Excuse me if you think I'm wrong.

To be honest I'd be very hesitant to put money on ML, ZJK, TB or JM against this version of WCQ ... ; ) I mean the guy was basically impenetrable.

Exactly this, everyone expected a win because he is number #8 in the ranking. Wang Chuqin is a much improved player this year, he didn't play many tournaments but can play against all the top guns from the chinese national team all year long. However the big difference to Harimoto is he is more than 3 years older which is a significant difference for such a young player.

I see some major upsets in store here.

Kanak was ranked #2, and has competed well against his peers on the junior circuit. People who focus think the ranking is biased underrated him but I never once doubted that his seeding was deserved. In the end, matchups matter and seeding based on performance reflects that.

Very surprised Kanak won bronze as he was significant underdog there. Well played by him. Considering how Harimoto got crushed by WCQ in the final, Sidorenko and Truls should take heart.

Harimoto needs a very ballanced and careful to his maturation period training. His aggressive yelling is nothing but just an escape from his emotional sensitivity. I see in him just a shy little boy, pushed to deal with the giants. The great preassure may jeopardise not only his future development, but even make him doubt in his own capabilities. Building a strong mentality during puberty is a very thin process with sometimes unknown results even for the best specialists.

i saw this issue 2 years back
he is a very shy boy and does have way too much expectation on him, its kind of sad for a 13 year old back then, and now he is only 15.

Well we won't see it all that often given how good he is but I always enjoy watching someone stick it to Harimoto.

I'm over his yelling thing and get that's just who he is. No biggie. But that being said, I'm still not a fan of it so when he gets it put on him, I don't mind one bit.

Anyone who watched him play in China National Championship would not be surprised about Wang taking the gold at youth olympic. The round 16 match between Wang Chuqin and Liang Jingkun was a higher level match than any match Wang had played in Buenos Aires. Wang played really well, but was still soundly beaten by Liang Jingkun.
I know Harimoto is a genius, but he is not yet on the same level as Liang Jingkun (or any other top tier CNT players). Case in point, Liang Jingkun crushed Harimoto 4-0 several months ago at Korea open.
Harimoto has to improve his FH attacks and abilities away from the table. CNT has clearly figured out how to contain Harimoto's flicks and close-to-table BH attacks. It's not that Harimoto wasn't playing well, it's more like Wang Chuqin wasn't giving him any chance to play his best game.

I could be wrong, but some juniors don't play that often in junior circuit, thus are rated/seeded low
Lin has been playing in U21 and seniors for the past 12 months if i'm correct
His last junior was 2017.
I think he should have some points from olympic qualifications, but he hardly played in "ranking" points this year, so his seed is lower than should be.

That is true
Harimoto is still too 1 dimensional player
he has grown taller now and his body should have developed more.
I'm sure the million dollar coaching team will have some solution for Tokyo.

All that is Ok.
But if you go some years back you will see WCQ in nearly the same physiacal and mental position as Harimoto nowerdays.
2 years ago I had the feeling that WCQ will copy FZD in no time, but it didn't happen and thats for good - training may show you the direction, but not the exact way to keep on it in your way. It took some time for WCQ to swim up and stay steady as a matured player. And next few years he may reveal what is his own style and face.
With Harimoto its a little bit different. Aside from the differenes of personality, he already has declared a personal style, making everybody to discuss "the new ball problems" and "the new /i.e.Harimoto/ style advantages for the new ball. Will he be able to go through the burden of expectations, we'll see.
