Hugo Calderano Wins 2013 Brazil Open & Becomes Youngest Ever Men’s Singles Champion!

Hugo Calderano the host nation representative won the 2013 Brazil Open ITTF World Tour becoming the youngest ever Men's Singles Champion in 18 years on the 11th August. In the women's singles final Romania’s Elizabeta Samara emerged successful over Ankita Das in the City of Santos, Brazil.

At a mere 17 years of age and number 5 seed for the tournament, Hugo Calderano defeated compatriot Gustavo Tsuboi in six games (8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 12-10). On route to the final Hugo eliminated Cauzio Matsuomoto the no.1 seed in 6 sets. Congratulations to Hugo, will we see a new star on the international circuits?

In the women's singles final Elizabeta Samara became the women's singles singles defeating India's Das Ankita in a closely fought 6 sets (6-11,11-4,14-12,9-11,11-9,17-15).
