Harimoto has done really well in the past couple games to combine his solid defensive game with a very aggressive attacking game once he has the initiative.

Pretty impressive form so far.

I agree that discussing the broken blade diminishes Truls' achievement, as he played excellently against a tough opponent.

I thought he played alright. Made some spectacular points, but made more mistakes trying them as per usual. I think he was at his baseline. WCQ usually makes some spectacular points and I don't really recall seeing them this game. I think that's the difference.

Yup, especially near the end, he knew he's winning just about every rally so he just played to stay in the rally rather than trying something fancy.

definetely wang was not in his best form. He did look at this racket a lot during the game in some suspicious way.
Truls on the other hand played very smart with spin variation. I noticed that he went more for high spin 3rd balls instead of crushing forehand as he always does. Also wang had lot of truble with spinny topspin he missed to counter and sometimes even blocking.
He will be schooled by the National team now.
Hope to see a nice fight from FZD now.

well only Zhang Yining has been able to overcome the spare racket handicap so I can't blame Wang CQ. Truls played well this time, more agressive and willing to stay in the rally and it worked well for him

But I thought rackets of similar construction are pretty similar? Much less specially chosen ones given my rubber and blade manufacturer and glued by the player themselves 🫣

This was denifnitely more that 1 minute timeout and lots of time to speak with the coach. I wonder why not everybody uses this rule to take a bit of a break....like, why not?

First, I don't buy WCQ lost due to a broken blade because WCQ was not himself even before the blade incident.

Even in the Round 32 match against Wang Yang, he was clearly not as dominant as he was.

My theory is that he was overwhelmed by the sheer pressure of carrying CNT on his back as the workload is the biggest yet as he is in all 3 categories which have never been done before OR he picked up some sort of injuries.

I tend to incline to my first theory btw.

Yup, one of Truls' biggest weaknesses is over-dependence on fancy third ball killshots and the general lack of consistency. Today he finally seemed comfortable keeping the ball on the table.

Have just watched the match back, Truls was ON IT this morning!!! Great decision making, short game, accuracy, made WCQ look very ordinary.
WCQ very gracious in defeat, it was a good moment between players after it finished. Great match!
