WTT Contender Buenos Aires in Argentina kicks off on Tuesday with 2 days of qualification. Top seeds are Hugo Calderano in MS and Miwa Harimoto in WS.
WR3 is going and then the next highest player is WR19. That’s just saying “heres another contender for you Hugo!”

I notice that both WTT Contenders (Argentina and Nigeria) are happening at the same time. I wonder how the players decided which one to attend to?

Life is not a deterministic machine, he is the favorite but in sports, anything can happen. Remember that Koki Niwa lost to Kai Zhang. Sharath Kamal Achanta lost to Ojo Onaolapo. Liang Jingkun lost to Lilian.

Buenos Aires is convenient for everyone traveling to South America for the Star Contender the following week, to make it one trip with both events. I also know that some players want to avoid Lagos due to past experiences there. On the other hand you can expect a weaker field, so more success potential. Looks like the Japanese team split to optimize that.

Duda and Dima were listed initially but both withdrew. Not sure why, probably now preferring longer break after US Smash before the Star Contender in Brazil. Considering that afterwards it's straight to Japan for the Champions and then back to Europe for another Smash. Lots of traveling and Contender is the most skippable.

Yea notice that too. Didn’t want Hina and Miwa to play the same tournament.

Do you know what exactly happened with past experiences in Lagos on why players do not want to go there?

Calderano will be playing this event and WTT Rio next week. But will not participate in WTT Champions Yokohama. but still go to WTT Champions Sweden. Too much travelling. and now he's always in the last 4 and plays XD with his darling he has too many matches.

he probably also went home for some quality time with family/families.

i would do the same.
I also know Rogelio of Mexico did the same, he had a well deserved trip home (last time home was Christmas).

so many Pan Americans are based in Europe and these South American Contender/Star Contender are greats for these players.

Uda's game (like a KNT player) has always been bothered by form more than other JNT players.
