So after a bit of back and forth with chat gpt, it concluded on this recipe for a booster.

What's your thoughts? I think it sounds promising.

---

DIY Long-Lasting Table Tennis Rubber Booster
Duration: approximately 4 to 6 months of boosted effect

Ingredients (for about 100 ml total booster):

70 ml light mineral oil (white cosmetic-grade oil or unscented baby oil)
25 grams cosmetic-grade paraffin wax (sold as candle wax or solid cosmetic wax)
5 ml lamp oil or turpentine (optional, for stronger and quicker penetration)

Tools required:

- Glass jar or heat-safe container
- Wooden stir stick or spoon
- Double boiler (or two pots, one inside the other with water)
- Measuring cup or kitchen scale
- Brush or sponge for application
- Rubber press (stack of books or clamp with foam)

Instructions:

1. Heat 70 ml of mineral oil gently in a double boiler — do not boil, just warm to about 50 to 60 degrees Celsius (120 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit).
2. In a separate container, melt 25 grams of paraffin wax using the same double boiler method until fully liquid and transparent.
3. Slowly pour the melted wax into the warm mineral oil while stirring continuously until fully mixed and uniform.
4. (Optional) Add 5 ml of lamp oil or turpentine and stir well to create a slightly thinner, more aggressive booster.
5. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
6. Pour into a sealable glass or high-quality plastic container. Label and store in a cool, dry place.

Application steps:

1. Clean the sponge side of the rubber thoroughly.
2. Apply a thin, even layer of the booster to the sponge using a brush or clean sponge.
3. Let it absorb for 12 to 24 hours.
4. Apply a second thin layer if stronger dome or feel is desired.
5. Let the rubber dome and rest for 48 to 72 hours before gluing.
6. Glue using standard water-based or rubber cement glue. Press under books or clamp for at least 6 hours.

Maintenance and notes:

- The boost effect lasts around 4 to 6 months per application.
- Reapply when the sponge starts to feel dull or less springy.
- Store booster in an airtight jar — it will remain usable for months.

Safety reminders:

- Use in a well-ventilated area, especially if solvent is included.
- Keep away from flames, heat, and children.
- Do not use as a cosmetic or apply to skin.

All this seems really interesting. But it takes time. If I had it, just for the sake of "interest" - I would give it a try..but I don't have time to "reinvent the wheel" :D

By the way, chatgpt should not be overestimated: it collects information from everywhere, including forums, where it is often not correct.

I'll probably give it a shot, maybe I'll add some nitro fuel too. I wonder how powerful and how long it could last.

well, in the days of speed glue, we often added fuel into the glue. if I remember correctly, it did add a loot of speed but you had to reglue more often because the speed effect faded faster (probably, because it evaporates quite quickly?)

Get a slow cooker add the baby oil together with pharmaceutical grade paraffin stir it a bit after the paraffin is melted (in about 20 minutes, based on its weight) so it become one (uniform mixture), let it cool to room temperature then add the turpentine and store it in a glass container that can be air-tight sealed. Quite easy recipe. Waiting your feedback Yannis on ESN and Chinese rubbers.

Now you're talking. I'll test that on the kokutaku rubbers I got the other day, the perfect testing rats.

Flammable liquid and heat, what could possibly go wrong?

I will spend 15 dollars on a bottle that lasts a year or more, instead of adding toxins to a slow cooker where I make food, or burning down my kitchen.

You all have fun.
the samples Haifu sent me, will last way longer.
I have to second your post, I don't think I will live long if I start messing table tennis stuff with the kitchen stuff.

Eh, I'm having fun. And if it does work, I could find something else to add and see the effects.

Baby oil and paraffin are not toxic in fact they are edible. Thousands of cosmetic products that you put in your skin and absorbed by it contain them and you can easily wash it of from a slow cooker with warm water and soap. Many apples and pears you eat have thin paraffin film, coated with it outside of their "skin"; it is better than using poisons to prolong the fruits' life in the stores. While edible, it's important to note that paraffin wax is not digestible, meaning it passes through the body without being broken down.
The turpentine can be added and stirred with the rest inside the glass container that you used for storage.

From this article:

Symptoms

Eating a lot of paraffin can lead to intestinal obstruction, which can cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and possible constipation.
If the paraffin contains a dye, a person who has an allergy to that dye may develop tongue and throat swelling, wheezing, and trouble breathing.
Real? The article is not telling how much we can eat. :p :p No dye is inside the pharmaceutical or food grade paraffin, other wise they wouldn't be pharmaceutical or food grade.

You can die if you drink 5-6 liters or less of water from water intoxication. So, avoid it also??

Hey I'm not really looking for an argument here but if you want to equate the necessity/risk of drinking water and surviving, to the necessity/risk of creating your own table tennis booster in the same instrument that you cook food, knowing that certain oils can be difficult to remove, that is completely up to you!

Not to even mention the risk of heating mineral oils on a stovetop that have different smoke and flash points than cooking oils.

I have two different pots for my Rusell Hobbs slow cooker, one for food and one with paraffin plus PTFE as I wax my bicycle chains in it. There is no danger when you use paraffin in a slow cooker as the temperature never exceeds the critical temperature of the mix. Slow cooker temperatures are from 60 to 90 degrees Celsius. If you look around in a cycling forum you will find many many "recipes" using paraffin and a slow cooker for waxing bicycle chains. In fact what I proposed is safer than using the double-pot trick in a stove as AI proposed, and I also wrote to let the Babyoil/paraffin mix to cool down before you add the turpentine which unlikely to the 2 other ingredients is more flamable.

What's even safer and probably cheaper is just buying a bottle of booster lol
@igorponger You see??? Imagine a world with no booster sold, banned from every store even from Ali! Restrictions and bans make this world a lot less safer! It would be so dangerous cooking all these chemicals!

:p :p :p :D

Actually, according to medical proofs, there is no good remedy against folly and drug addiction. Let those obsessed guys alone.
