She'll have no impact in 2025. 2028 may even be too early.
She is Japanese Championship runner-up. "No impact" is a pretty strong statement, though if the only thing that matters is beating China, you are probably right. But remember, she is simply doing the things Mima did age relative, just not as spectacular.

Well defeating the team to beat is the lifelong goal of the JNT and of the JNT players, so that's the impact I'm talking about. And not just defeating them at minor events, but at the biggest tournaments.

JNT women had no bronze medalist in Olympic singles despite their lifelong goal until Tokyo 2021. Miwa still has to demonstrate growth as a player, but she doesn't have enough as a player right now for things like getting to the QF at the WTTC or getting to the QF or SF at the Olympics not to be huge goals for her. So I understand your definition of impact, but Mima and Miu have set the bar high, Miwa hasn't even done what they have done and they didn't have your definition of impact at the Olympics or the WTTC.

Apart from Boll that won a world cup in his teens against the Chinese, and maybe Hirano with the Asian Champs ( an argument can be made if the tournament was truly big enough, or just the shock value of defeating 3 players in a row that roused concerns in China). No other teenager has done any noteworthy stuff in singles in the big tourneys against China in the 2000s. Even Mima. And Miwa hasn't shown any more promise more than what these seniors displayed.

Eh, exactly.

As for reaching the SF , she just needs WYD in her draw.

ATTC 2017 was big. It was held in Wuxi, China. ZYL was the defending champion. CM has never won the ATTC to this day. Hirano dropped only 2 games throughout (9 games in a row, 2 games dropped, and then another 9 games in a row). ATTC 2017 added weight to her World Cup 2016 title.

ATTC 2017
F 3-0 CM (Hirano turned 17 on the day of the final)
SF 3-0 ZYL
QF 3-2 DN
R16 3-0 CIC
R32 3-0 Lee Zion
R64 3-0 Sawettabut Jinnipa (older sister of Suthasini)

World Cup 2016
F 4-0 CIC
SF 4-2 FTW
QF 4-1 Ito
R16 4-2 Samara

Nobody is talking about how Felix made Dima average 6 points a game, that's crazy. Even Ma Long can't choke Dima like that.

Okay, as long as we agree that our definitions of impact are not the same, we are on the same page.

World Cup 2016 was in Philadelphia so that was great to see in person. Hurricane Hirano was on a tear that lasted through the WTTC in 2017. After that, she learned what it meant to be a target of China.

Just watched the Ito v Jeon match. Don't think Ito played bad, she even played a crazy round the net shot with her forehand which is practically unheard of. That said, she still can't rally for nuts so she's basically screwed if she can't find the right timing for her smashes/sidespin shots. Jeon simply wanted it more, accepted that Ito was going to land more than a couple of smashes and then played out of her skin.

Interestingly, Ito took an uncharacteristic timeout at 5-7 in the fourth after winning two points in a row that Adam Bobrow theorised was in preparation to receive Jeon's serve, and it actually worked but unfortunately she could not keep up the momentum.

In 7 previous losses, JJH got only 3 games off of Ito. The 3-2 win over Liu Yangzi was really ugly (it was 3-0 at Singapore Smash 2024). How many 5 gamers have she escaped lately?

Ito has already told us she is at her limits and it showed in the match against Szocs at WTTC 2024.

I think most people saw that coming. At this point, no one in Europe other than Alexis could stop him.

I think Dima needs to change his style and switch his BH rubber back to D09c. He's trying to play the speed game with the D05 against these youngsters, but he's never gonna be good enough at that game. He needs to emulate Timo and use spin and placement to win.

Why do you think his rubber isn't D09c?
