  1. Oh no! Zhang Jike in trouble?

he had way too many injuries at that point, even in the match against Harimoto he was grimacing and playing very stiff.

Taking slow pushes earlier is also a good possibility too but will require faster footwork and a more accurate read of the ball. I feel like for slow pushes, waiting for the ball to come to me feels more natural, I don't need to move so much, I can put more power and spin on the ball, and I have...
  3. Oh no! Zhang Jike in trouble?

It appears that he has been gambling since he was a teen - and that was actually the reason why he was punished and sent back to the provincial team in the first place... And he's been caught a few times while he was an active player too - he never really stopped.

Coach Meng is one of the best at WRM, I learnt a lot of stuff from him too. What this video shows is also extremely important, to use the legs and hip rotation to prepare for the backswing and to initiate the forward swing. In terms of timing I feel like the BH loop is very different because...
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Tbh I've trained more against unconventional players who flat hit, fade, hook, chopblock my loops compared to those who actually block properly. The timing and footwork is completely different. It's annoying because they make me look like a fool even during practice, but I think it's valuable...

He doesn't play games, but we played some doubles before and basically he can't return my serves at all.
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I did some a lot of continuous FH looping today with the bent arm backswing - the club didn't have good enough players today to train serve/receive with my nastiest serves which was what I really wanted to do... There's this guy who plays inverted and does the weirdest block stroke I've ever...
  8. Taiwan's new talent

Mostly because Kuo is a lefty. Lefties play 90% with right handed players but righties only play 10% with lefties. The righty vs lefty game is completely different from the righty - righty matchups. Kuo appears to be a Lin Yun Ju fan having so similar serve patterns, BH and FH technique. He...
  9. FH-Topspin trainingsession with Battle 2 Bluesponge on FZD ALC

I think for FH topspin you already use your body well without much arm backswing (except for the weight transfer part but I think it's a quick fix), I was thinking of other strokes like serve, push, flick, etc... I keep on finding stuff to optimise in my game too in terms of using better movements.
  10. Technique advice for me

You can actually still do BH weight transfer with FH stance (left foot front and right foot back), the key is to stick your right knee forward to enable the inwards hip rotation. It's very subtle but pretty much all the pros use some degree of hip rotation in their strokes. Imo once you learn...
  11. Should we forgive substandard rackets.

If it produces inconsistent balls it will also be inconsistent for them too resulting in more errors. Most equipment related issues in TT is a double edged sword. Although it would be very annoying to play against.

Haha yeah that's true... It's better if your partners are also always levelling up, giving you more challenging scenarios. I've improved a huge ton since half a year ago, but he probably improved even more imo. I guess I also coached him a bit too well and he's benefiting so much from those...
  13. Technique advice for me

The lever arm is created by your thumb exerting pressure on the right side of the blade face and the index finger exerting pressure on the left (bat pointed upwards for reference). See Ti Long's video which has an excellent explanation here:
  14. Serve tactics

I'm inspired by He Zhi Wen so placement is more important for me. I serve mostly wide short serves to the BH short and follow it up with quick sidespin pushes to the wide FH, or if they let me (even better) loops to the wide FH. The other direction - FH short corner then place it to wide BH also...
  15. Technique advice for me

LOL hahahaha my bad what a brain fart. Wrighty and dingyibvs you're both right and I'm completely wrong 😂. Coz I always think thumb applying pressure for BH strokes and index finger applying pressure on FH strokes, but I didn't realise that the thumb is applying pressure on the FH rubber and...
  16. FH-Topspin trainingsession with Battle 2 Bluesponge on FZD ALC

On the last point, what I found is that you'll automatically become faster the smaller your arm backswings are and the more body powered they are. From my experience, I didn't even do much specific drills but I did get much, much faster after I eliminated arm backswings from most of my game.
  17. Technique advice for me

Your thumb rests on your BH rubber right?😂 Index finger is the one resting on the FH rubber. Edit: this is completely wrong but I'll keep it up for laughs 🤣
  18. Technique advice for me

The issue with your BH movement is that your backswing is pretty much arm powered. Once you have arm powered backswing, you will always feel jammed by sudden balls in matches, even though they may look good during practice. Think about your previous matches where you missed a ton of FH loops vs...

fml I lost even more matches to my training partner who somehow improved so much. He now has the nastiest reverse pendulum serve to my short FH which is tricky AF to deal with. Previously I was winning like 80-90% of games against him. Today was more like 60% winrate But there's some good...
  20. Technique advice for me

Wow that FH performance in that game is better than mine already 😂 What a bomb! You've tightened the serve movement and the FH loop a lot it seems, which is giving you some amazing consistency and quality. I can see your arm movement is a lot smaller now and a very body focused stroke which is...
