Backhand looks like long pips, so I've got nothing for you there. I think your forehand is a bit stiff. You seem to not actually prepare for the shot with any backswing or movement, then at the last second you almost rush to hit the ball by pushing your arm forwards, rather than letting your...
  2. WTT Contender Almaty 2026 Sep 1-6

Felt like I was watching the old Hirano. I really hope she continues this form and that she has found the right adjustments to get out of her slump. Such a fun player to watch.
  3. WTT Contender Almaty 2026 Sep 1-6

Hirano playing unreal for the last half of game 3, love to see it
  4. FH issue: i dun wanna smash no moar, i wanna spin moar. help!

Against this type of ball, I aim for: Loop: brush with closed angle and aim for the top+back of the ball (mostly top) Push: need to chop down+forward to create backspin and low angle yourself Also works against anti-spin/pips when you get a dead return.
  5. WTT Contender Almaty 2026 Sep 1-6

I also really hope it continues, Hirano is one of my favourite players
  6. Dignics and its Effect on Sales of Tenergy and Rozena

Blastac back to number 8. Kind of want to try it out

I think serve practice is one of those things that gives a lot of return for minimal effort. Height and placement matter more than spin as well, in my opinion. Very low serve with okay backspin is much better than heavy backspin on a higher serve.
  8. Joola Hugo Calderano Trinity Charged & Trinity Dynamic Review: Great Hybrid Rubbers for Advanced Amateur Players

If you have tried, how do you feel these compared to the Xiom C55?
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Lots of interesting opinions here, heh. The top Australian players in the last few years are typically competing at a 2400-2600 USATT level. Finn Luu is in Bundesliga 1, and a few other players have been playing regularly in some of other professional leagues. I have seen some 2000+ rated...
  10. TTBL (Bundlesliga) 2026 - 2027

It's also possible that he is really good at the short game, but he thinks he gets more value from opening up the point more than playing short. In practical terms I agree though, matches and practice can be very different. The practice hall can show technical ceiling or potential, but the...
  11. FZD ALC vs Viscaria are the differences actually significant? My measurements surprised me

Even models of the same blade will feel different. There's probably as much variation between each Viscaria as there is between each FZD
  12. Calderano and his new equipment

He tried multiple different blades and was working with Joola to develop the equipment he wanted. So he wasn't always using the same equipment from match to match for at least a period of months. Matt Hetherington gave some more details about it in another thread.
  13. Calderano and his new equipment

I don't think it has anything to do with the Joola equipment being any worse overall than Xiom, but the fact that he switched around equipment a number of times after leaving Xiom. Someone at Hugo's level certainly can adapt quicker than almost anyone, but the game is still very much a game of...
  14. Pre Season Training & Matches

I don't really record myself playing, but Oh Junsung is a good example of someone who plays with a very horizontal stroke and closed angle.
  15. Pre Season Training & Matches

If you close the angle, you can hit with more power and generate more spin, which will make it clear the net but also dip instead of going out. Hitting powerful topspins consistently is about finding the right balance between the angle you're hitting at and the amount of power you put into the...
  16. Pre Season Training & Matches

Sure, different rubbers will make an immediate difference in match play. Some will be easier or harder to play certain shots. But as you've said, this doesn't make you better as a player. All of the rubbers you've listed will generate very high quality shots if you play with more commitment...
  17. Pre Season Training & Matches

The equipment is so irrelevant tbh. Whether you use T19, D09c, G1, or any other rubber, you will play better shots by learning to brush the ball and play with more weight transfer and a faster swing. At some point you need to get over the fear of missing if you want to be an offensive player.
  18. Edge tape issue

Well, the edge tape must have been stuck to the glue somehow for it to pull the rubber off the blade You could try an edge tape that is less adhesive. Not sure what you used but some like Tibhar and Yasaka seem quite adhesive, but the Nittaku 'stripe guard' one is a lot less so in my experience.
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Ah, didn't see the video. I see it was posted a bit further back. Looks like you're opening your stance and taking the ball really late, it's almost in line with your hips. You're lifting the shot with your shoulder, instead of taking the ball earlier and hitting through it. I don't think you...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Well from the photos, you can clearly see that your swing is lifting the elbow and shoulder significantly, whereas Ma Long is keeping his shoulder/elbow aligned and rotating through the ball, rather than pushing the arm/elbow/shoulder up and forward the way you are. This is a very limited...
