Hey peeps, was wondering if anyone knows of any famous table tennis clubs in tokyo which I can visit during my stay there in Jan.
Cheers!
Cheers!
you can visit UPTY, www.upty.co.jp
i practice there. The head coach is Ryusuke SAKAMOTO, a former member of the Japanese team, he is currently coaching Kenta MATSUDAIRA. 8000 yens/hour to play with him. He speaks English. Its in a quite central location. Be careful, no showers there.
at this place https://www.shands.jp/ you can see some active pro players like Kazuhiro CHAN and Masataka MORIZONO, Rei YAMAMOTO, and get coaching lessons from them (10,000 / hour). Never tried it.
I recommend also this place www.lilisc.com for coaching lessons. I go there. No showers there is a public bath (Sento) a few meters away. No celebrities.
Else if you just need to hit the ball you can go to Minato Sports Center http://minatoku-sports.com/en/index.html
there are 18 tables there. There are players ranging from beginners to intermediate/little bit advanced level. I often play there, it's near my home. the entrance is 800 yens for visitors. You have access to all the facitities (gym, pool, badminton, running area etc...)
There is also place run by former world champion ISEKI http://isekiseiko.co.jp/
never tried it. Its not central.
There is a place run by Nittaku with the former coach of Ai FUKUHARA
http://www.nittaku.com/community/detail.php?id=356
It reopens on the 4th only
From 9:00 older people usually then high school students then salarymen in the evening
I'm planning on visiting Tokyo later this year.
It seems like most of the listed clubs are primarily for lessons?
Are there a lot of clubs that also have walk-in open play?
I'm around 2200 rating in the USA.
do you know where to play around Edogawa?
You could try Edogawa Sports Center for a public place to play TT
They must have some tables, i've played a tournament here.
4 Chome-2-20 Nishikasai, Edogawa City, Tokyo 134-0088
For lessons, go to Ariake (see post above), its not too far. They have some pro players such like Oya Hidetoshi and some other very good coaches

as for TT schools, UPTY has closed last year.
I've tried this school which is very good, with many different coaches. Its also just in front of the train station (Higashi-Nakano), you can't get lost
