Hi TurboZ

Thank you very much for all the info/updates about the Trials - I really love those tournaments :)

Do you have any additional info about Phase 1 - like who participated or more detailed results?

I think it is because no top players participated in the First Stage while they were all busy playing in Hungarian Open at that time so there is not much news report about it. Hope someone who knows can share it here.

All I can find is that there were 16 players competing from Jan 17-21. They play best of 5 instead of 3. The final top 6 then enter Stage Two. They are Yu Ziyang, Zhou Qihao, Xu Chenhao, Liu Dingshuo, Zhou Kai and Wang Chuqin.

From 2017 they start using the new DHS ABS ball (D40+) which LGL said the difference is pretty significant. It has less spin but faster which suits fierce attacking players like FZD, LJK and Xu Chenhao with longer rallies. On the other hand players who emphasize control and delicate touch will suffer.

LGL also said he is not totally satisfied with the performance of FZD and XX with some unexpected losses and lacking the winning spirit, even they rank 1st and 2nd. Also the only penholder is showing its age and risk falling out. Let's see how LGL can help him transform once again.

The thing that amazed me about the XX FZD game was the total lack of emotion from either of them. Neither the players nor the people watching batted an eyelid at some incredible shots. I'm assuming this isn't open to the public, but even top players and coaches must have thought "wow, that was pretty good"!? Clearly not!

The played the same way during the Grand Finals, which stroke me too. No emotions, no chooing, nothing.
