Hi guys, I'm interested in this new blade by DHS but the info about the top plies is confusing. Both PROTT and princett says that this blade has limba and koto outer plies but on aliexpress Chinese PingPong and Playa PingPong says the plies are Limba + Ayous + ALC + Ayous + ALC + Ayous + Ayous. The blade is not on the DHS website so I don't know which store is right. Does anyone have info about this?
Thanks.

There are at least 2 conflicting sources, either Koto/Limba or Ayous/Limba. T̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶c̶r̶e̶d̶i̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶e̶s̶ ̶f̶r̶o̶m̶ ̶a̶ ̶D̶H̶S̶ ̶a̶d̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶a̶ ̶m̶a̶g̶a̶z̶i̶n̶e̶.̶ It's unusual to see ayous as the top ply for a 5-ply all-wood blade.

p.s. The images all come from official DHS Weixin posts.

@zeio its 7 ply composite

@tt_kidz hmm I haven't seen that info but from the pictures both plies look quite distinct so I don't think they're both limba.

I think that the side with the lens is the limba side but I can't identify the other side. Some picture looks similar to my viscaria like this one (left side) imgpro_3016_3_415_2.jpg but some pictures are unclear. Any opinions?

What I meant is practically all 5+2 blades(instead of calling them 7-ply composite) are structurally based on 5-ply all-wood, with a thick core. You won't find 7-ply all-wood structure in a modern 5+2 looping blade. If it's unusual to see a 5-ply all-wood with an ayous top ply, what's your chance of seeing that in a 5+2 blade?

Viscaria has Koto outer plies so I think the description from the Baidu link is correct: http://tiebapic.baidu.com/forum/pic/item/4d338744ebf81a4cd131aca0c02a6059252da65c.jpg

For comparison an old Donic Persson Powerplay with Koto outer plies and a Tibhar Samsonov Alpha with Limba outer plies PPP_Sam3.jpg

That guy doesn't have the answer either. He "double-checked" by just referring to the post on the official DHS Weixin on 6/24 where it says limba for FH and ayous for BH. However, in another post on 6/12, it is said to have ayous for FH and limba for BH. Lost in correction. :rolleyes:

Below is a page from the DHS 2020 table tennis products catalog 2.0 in another DHS Weixin post on 5/8, where it says ayous and limba instead of koto and limba. There is a problem with the descriptions if ayous is on the FH, because ayous is softer than limba.

Here is the same page from the DHS 2020 table tennis products catalog in yet another DHS Weixin post on 4/27, where it says koto and limba.

Some blades with ayous as top ply. Ayous has these unique grooves. Are they there on the Hurricane Ji?

Another image of ayous, cut in a way that looks rather close to the one on Hurricane Ji. Compare with this that looks closer to the ones on Dacota and Taksim.

This is so confusing lol :confused::confused::confused:. Its kinda hard to see due to the plastic but it doesn't seem like ayous. The lines are longer and less dot like - more like koto. The clearest picture of the blade without plastic that I can find is the pro version, w965, and looks like limba + koto which the answer here seems to support.

DHS says the FH side is harder than the BH side, so it's either limba/ayous or koto/limba.

The #9 post in that pingpangwang thread mentions the Hurricane Ji is the commercial version of W965, which has the limba/ayous top plies. Those pictures appear to have been taken from this Tieba thread.

Similar construction as the newer H301X except with different outer veneer and overall slightly thicker construction at 6.0mm.
