We all have our favourite TT players, but who were your favourites when you first started TT years ago?

I started playing 40 years ago so my TT idols were from long time ago. They were great world champions.
Men: Zhuang Zedong, Stellan Bengtsson.
Women: Hu Yulan.

I first saw Waldner play. I just found his style really amazing, he had more finesse than power. So he was my very first idol, but then when i saw ma long's top spin i was just blown away. So for finesse i go for Waldner, for power, Ma long!!!

Going into High school was when I first really really got interested in table tennis. I had played some before, but it wasn't until hs that it became like my number 1 hobby. And during that time, Wang Liqin was in his prime/entering his prime. He had long stretches of being number one.

well, when I started playing table tennis, I hadn't a clue about the pro's ^^
now, my idols are:
- Timo Boll: great player, pleasant person, fair play guy and so on
- J.O. Waldner: a legend! unbeliveable! *.*
- Joo Sea Hyuk: an amazing defensive player with devastating forehand topspins! He's the only defender who can really compete against the best!

I'd like to meet them! Damn, that would be an amazing birthday present! I keep believing!!

Cheers :D

Boll, because I saw the vid of him playing at young age until bundesliga haha. Later Waldner and practically any player that I saw playing. More recently I started to appreciate the Chinese style more and more. Nowadays my top-5 I think should be:
1. Michael Maze
2. Oh Sang Eun
3. Zhang Jike
4/5. Timo Boll / Wang Liqin
