Well this is really stupid for me..
To pick players one year before event .. well I dont want to be rude, but one year is pretty long time!
Many things can happen..
When I see improvement of Lin Gaoyuan, it can happen, that at the time of olympics he will be the best player!
Who the hell created this rule?
I would pic players from June 2012! .. or may 2012 .. but not this early..
What motivation has now Ma Long, Ma Lin and other players that now know they wont go to Olympics .. what motivation they have?

It is just stupid..

I'm so glad that Zhang Jike is going, he deserves it. Simply because he wasn't the easiest kid to handle he didn't get on the Chinese team earlier on while he has better than all the other players. And Wang Hao for the other spot is pretty obvious I think. Also because it is a sort of tradition that China sends penholders in their equipe at any event I believe. So even with current performances (ZJK is injured) I still don't think Ma Long would have a chance to go. He hasn't really proven that he is stronger than the other Chinese players any time recently.

I guess that you have not been following the Chinese Super League.

Ma Long recently beat:
3-0 Zhang Jike WTTC (11-6, 13-11, 11-2 I think)(That was the 8. Time in a row that Ma Long beat his sorry a** so hard that he will never be able to sit down again) 
?-? He beat Ma Lin – I don’t remember the score
3-0 Wang Liqin
3-0 Chen Qi
3-1 Xu Xin

Zhang Jike was pretty lucky that Wang Hao beat Ma Long in the semis or else Ma Long would have beaten Zhang Jike badly !

@Reiin
You are right there. I was just taking international appearances into account. But in the end I think those count because he will have to face players from all over the world at the OS. And u can't tell wether Ma Long would have beaten Zhang Jike because they didn't play each other there. Especially if u seen that ZJK beat Wang Hao so convincing. I'm pretty sure Zhang Jike would have a really good chance since Ma Long can't really handle important matches. He had it very tough against Tokic, with all respect a medium level player in Europe, he lost in the World Cup against Oh Sang Eun and Samsonov. When there is real pressure on he sinks far below his level. So the Chinese coach will think twice before sending him to the OS, especially when there are others in great form. Personally I prefer Ma Lin to get the 3rd spot, but everyone has their own opinion about that :p

I don't think it bothers the Chinese (LGL) too much who they should send. They are going to bring some medals home no matter what. It is the DRAW that matters more. Most important is that the colours of the medals must be gold and silver.

You're right, it's stupid to pick up players NOW even if the olympic games are in 2012...
One year is a long time and maybe some great talents will appear or there will be injuries or so... Who knows?
I think they should wait more...
Maybe in 4 months, Timo is n°1, Ma Lin n°2 and Ma Long n°3 and so on... who knows? ^^ (yeah, I know, I want Timo to be n°1 xD)
Ok, they want to be organised but you don't need A YEAR to put up the playing schedule? ^^
Neverthelless, there are also the qualification tournaments... But there I think they can organise them without picking the topplayers (who don't have to play qualifications..)
