If FB was a little more consistent he would be in the top 5. His playing style is similar with the same strengths - amazing footwork, tremendous fh and bh and fantastic short game. The service is where he does things quite differently compared to ML.

What does mean 'world class' for you? Top 10? 15? 50? Yes, Fang Bo is a world class player, but he is way different from Ma Long, no need to compare him to anyone.

In the Austrian Open, we could have both singles events won by "qualifiers" (like at the Hungarian Open earlier this year if I remember correctly?).

Lin Gaoyuan's road to the final:
4:0 Mehdi Bouloussa (WR #207)
4:0 Lin Yun-Ju (WR #103, QF in Czech Open 2017)
4:1 Kazuhiro Yoshimura (WR #93, 2nd in All Japan Championships 2017)
4:2 Marcos Freitas (WR #17)
4:3 Robert Gardos (WR #57)
4:1 Koki Niwa (WR #9)
4:1 Simon Gauzy (WR #13)

Gu Yuting's road to the final:
4:0 Laura Pfefer
4:0 Wang Yi-Ju (WR #172)
4:2 Miu Hirano (WR #6)
4:0 Yui Hamamoto (WR #27)
4:2 Hina Hayata (WR #17)
4:2 Gu Ruochen (WR #62, CTTSL team mate with Gu)

They didn't get a free pass to the finals, that's for sure :)

well i made an easy prediction at the beginning of the tournament, an all-Chinese affair from the semis. got 7/8 for it

Gauzy sneaked in because there was no Chinese in this part of the draw.

WANG Manyu and SUN Yingsha, those two will be gold and silver in some WTTC or Olympics in the near future...

Even when some CNT guys underperformed and got knocked out early. they still got 3 out of 4 SF spots in the Men's draw. And this is not even their A team. The rest of the world might have some hope when B team protests over something and they send their C team

Are you referring to the men's or women's final ?Yan an may be , but not Lin , its smaller than Fang Bo or Ma Long's yes, he stays closer to the table to make up in speed what he lacks in raw power , so he cannot open his hands as much ... but its still chinese ...
The final with two top Chinese players with very non-Chinese forehands, super compact, almost Euro-like.

I think that YA an LGY have very similar technique. Just watch his backswing here.

Oh no, the Chinese FH discussion rears it’s ugly head. Hahahaha. [emoji2]

Run away! [emoji2]

I thought Fang Bo had a Venice Beach FH and Waldner had a Beijing FH.

Nah ! I think they sold the rights to some broadcasting company and used their stream .... the reason I say is because this stream was available through ESPN in the US as well ... which is an exception
ITTF starting to use better video equipment it seems
