Here is ITTF's rule of 25 penalty points for no show. Nothing serious. If the player has to withdraw BEFORE the match due to injury or illness or oversleep, he or she also gets 25 penalty points.

RANKING DEFAULT POLICY FOR NO-SHOWS
PRINCIPLE:When a player does not show up for a competition or for a match, the player will bepenalized by a flat 25 penalty points per “no-show” per tournament.
This would, however, affect only the first non-played match scheduled for that player withinthe tournament.
The flat 25 penalty points remain valid for a period of 12 months from the date ofimplementation.
The Bonus Points earned by a penalized player will not be affected, except that a player whodoes not play any match in an event cannot get Bonus Points for this event.
According to Xu Xin's coach Wu Jingping, CNT player are back to their provincial teams in prep for the National Games.
