On the 25[SUP]th[/SUP] June 2011 saw China verse the World in Shanghai for the World challenge. The China team included Ma Lin, Xu Xin and Ma Long whilst the World’s team was Timo Boll, Joo Se Hyuk and Jun Mizutani.
Before the completion got underway both team captains were asked to say something. Timo Boll quoted “This is the day that we beat them (China)!” while Ma Lin expressed “We hope for a clean sweep”

Match 1
The opening match was between Ma Long and Jun Mizuani. Determined Ma Long proved to strong for Mizutani and won with scores 12-10, 11-9 and 11-4.
Match 2
Ma Long’s win put China in a 1-0 lead. European superstar Timo Boll however levelled the match by beating China’s rising star Xu Xin. The match was full of surprises with Timo Boll going down by 2 games to 1. Boll focussed and stuck to his game plan and was the match winner.
Match 3
The third match got underway after an exhibition match with New York Spin. This match up was between Ma Lin and Joo Se Hyuk. Ma Lin played superbly to overcome Joo by 3 games to 1.
Match 4
Once again, the crowd were in for a real treat. Ma Long vs Timo Boll. From the start of the match Ma Long took the game to his hands. Timo played very well however Ma Long was just to strong and Boll could not keep up with Ma Long’s forehand.
Match 5
The fourth match gave the victory to China, however the competition continued with Xu Xin vs Jun Mizutani. Xu Xin pulled out an impressive performance to redeem himself in his first match to win 11-9, 12-10 and 12-10.
China vs the World is a fantastic competition and brings players together. Team captain of the world's team Timo Boll hope's of winning did not come to plans and Ma Lin’s clean sweep did not take place. However, China can go away happy with their victory.
