I was in a bit of a rut for a week or so. Thinking about form and fixing issues, but it seemed like the more I tried to fix, the more problems I had. Coach told me I was thinking too much but I didn't know how to stop doing that. Then I was watching a video of a professional video game player talking about what he does to play better. He doesn't think about his execution, what he does is think about however, is water.

He explained that he just thinks about flowing water, saying the word water over and over in his head, and then all of his execution works great. The muscle memory is there and everything falls into place while also keeping his muscles relaxed since it's all natural.

I remember a quote someone once posted of something Gandhi said. Something along the lines of, "if you think about your arms, your legs wont work. If you think about your legs, your arms wont work. But if you think about nothing, your whole body will work."

So I started just not thinking about anything except maybe placement or which part of the ball to hit. Not thinking about hitting hard, spinning the ball, any body parts to use, form or anything like that. Just letting my body do it's thing.
What I found doing this, is that my form fixes I had been trying to make magically held. My form was much better, and every part of my game did better when I simply stopped thinking about any of the nonsense and just let loose.

NL , I missed it , what was the strategy, I saw you stopped the warm up immediately and then started playing. Of course, he was not able to handle most of the serves and returns.

I have played him 4 times I think with this match. I know his style. He is a young and powerful looper who puts too little value in consistency.

It wasn't a strategy. I had already played three matches. I was warmed up. I was not in the mood to be picking up balls for someone else who would be blasting balls. So I just asked if he was ready to play because his shots show that he is already warmed up. If one wasn't warmed up, I may have asked him to block for me. But my point is that you shouldn't get angry. You should be warmed up with your practice partners and friends. And then if the opponent is hitting the ball like that, just start the match. If he says he wants to warm up some more, say okay but I would also tell him I am too old to chase practice loops repeatedly.

I could also lose to anyone after starting the match so that is not the point. The point is to not get upset continuing to run the ball down a land get into a mood you do not want.

Understood NL :)

That's how I interpreted it. I personally would still continue 'warmup', just to give me a bit more of an insight into the shots I might expect in the game.

Rich can loop before the match starts. The only way you look own how someone will play you is by playing them.

I like your backhand with the Tenergy. Seems more spinny than the Hexer but I cannot tell if it is more consistent. Nice strategy on the guy who wants to hit through you on the warm-up.

You may be surprised but that was actually Evolution FX-S. A silly story but I didn't use the rubber for any other match but that one.

Well, it looks like you've earned the right to EJ and look for a replacement.

You might think about the Xiom Offensive S. Inexpensive and it plays great. 5 plies. Off- and it feels nice and crisp.

I just looked at the Westchester results. That kid in the video, who lost to me and a 1700 player, comfortably beat a 2050 and a 2100 player, a 2100 player that beat me comfortably. It's just a warning of what happens when you try to engage certain players directly with fast heavy topspin and rallies.

I suspect the kid will get much better as he matures and he plays more fast topspin players that dominate the over 2000 spots.

Last night I put my paddle down next to my bag and started picking up the tables. When I got back to my bag I noticed my paddle was gone. Hopefully someone just grabbed it by accident as they were packing up their own stuff, since they'd never be able to use the paddle themselves (everyone would recognize it) it would be stupid to steal.

If it was stolen I'm sure it was well deserved on my part. But hey, maybe it's time to go to carbon ;P

Man that sucks i hope you didn't buy your rubbers just recently. I would hate to lose a racket with rubbers that are like one week old.

I also tried out the tips people were giving me for being more focused in training and it went pretty well! Still not quite where I would like it to be but a significant improvement nonetheless.

Forget about the rubbers. Shuki uses a hand made blade that takes months for the guy to make after it is ordered.

If you ordered a new one Shuki, how long would it take before it was made and you received it? A year? Or is it even more than that.

That is a hand made custom blade from Ross Leidy.

They are like works of art.

@baumschule

about a month old tenergy sheets but those are replaceable :)

@carl

It's over a year now I'm pretty sure, I was 9 months in and still around 40 people down the list last time. He has an option to spend double to be moved toward the front of the waiting list. Ends up being over 400usd for the blade if you do this option.
