I was in a bit of a rut for a week or so. Thinking about form and fixing issues, but it seemed like the more I tried to fix, the more problems I had. Coach told me I was thinking too much but I didn't know how to stop doing that. Then I was watching a video of a professional video game player talking about what he does to play better. He doesn't think about his execution, what he does is think about however, is water.
He explained that he just thinks about flowing water, saying the word water over and over in his head, and then all of his execution works great. The muscle memory is there and everything falls into place while also keeping his muscles relaxed since it's all natural.
I remember a quote someone once posted of something Gandhi said. Something along the lines of, "if you think about your arms, your legs wont work. If you think about your legs, your arms wont work. But if you think about nothing, your whole body will work."
So I started just not thinking about anything except maybe placement or which part of the ball to hit. Not thinking about hitting hard, spinning the ball, any body parts to use, form or anything like that. Just letting my body do it's thing.
What I found doing this, is that my form fixes I had been trying to make magically held. My form was much better, and every part of my game did better when I simply stopped thinking about any of the nonsense and just let loose.
