You all are a chatty bunch on the weekends!! LOL Playing catchup.
Archie, I am only going to answer one question:
One of the biggest advantages of the penhold grip is the mobility of the wrist for short game.
Agreed on the PH's wrist mobility. One of my shadow drills is to block to my right and then immediately block to my left and vice versa. Wrist is very mobile.
That is my NYC Subway penhold skills. Both angles seem easy to me.
Hardcore Carl! Whips out blade and snaps pix in the subway! And WTF at the subway passenger across from you wearing slippers in cold weather lol
Including the very well spoke and magnanimous OSPH.
*looks up
magnamious* LOL at Carl using them $10 words on me!
With OldSchool, the main thing I did with serves was spin/no-spin because the combination allowed me to get good third balls to open on. I also believe that 42&BP told him after: "You need to learn to read no-spin serves." [emoji2]
Well, maybe that was because of the doubles matches too. [emoji2]
Yeah, i'm 500 at serve receive sometimes. And especially no-spin serves. Whole 'nother level for me to learn as well as do. I'm still trying to decipher spin serves and sometimes get lucky reading them right and able to return.
42andbackpains definitely said it during our doubles matches as Der, PingPongHolic and you figure me out easily. Also quite possibly also during our singles from further back too.

Here is the latest footage of my pendulum serve. When I serve it long and fast (not shown here per se), I have actually gotten players to go into a trance wondering what the heck is up with the backspin version as it swerves through the air.
Looking good Sir! I still feel uncomfortable with the short motion pendulum serve, but I'm still working on it. I think I'm also working on another aspect of my serves at the same time which is throwing me off. Probably should tackle one aspect at a time. Subconciously I fear standing very close to the corner of the table thinking i'll hurt myself. Despite watching Xu Xin and other pro players who even has their left leg touching the table, i still can't get over it. But i think for now, i will just work on the short motion with an eye towards serving no spin easier in the future than my accustomed long motion pendulum serve.

Reverse Tomahawk for the win at 5:26
Revers backhand serve at 18:24
Excellent reverse tomahawk! Back in da day, a friend used to love the tomahawk serve and would throw that in once in a while and catch me sleeping sometimes.
WHOA! nice reverse bh serve! That would get me! My first time seeing that from a SH. I saw a PH practicing serves on the next table as I was playing once. Also I don't recall whom, but i saw a modern ph serve that in a pro match.
Congrats on your 2 wins despite team loss.

Very cool Der! Congrats!!

Shuki,
Thank you for the share of your early days!
If you told me back in the lat 1970's-early 1980's that one day i would have a small phone that could take pictures as well as take video and countless i would think you bonkers. Thankfully perhaps, no videos exist of when I was a beginner lol

First time playing since 24/10 but have been skipping 15-30mins each day and felt lighter on my feet.
I jump rope for my martial arts workouts and it's amazing how light I feel. It has helped my MA somewhat... not seeing it help my TT just yet. Although walking to pick up balls, i'm very light on my feet LOL

I am happy you signed up. Try to play people widely, start with weaker opponents as their balls will have less spin and they will be more predictable so you can attack them as confidently as you want to. The focus is on playing a quality shot, either heavy spin when low, or heavy spin and/or pace when the ball is high. Use spin avoidance, whippy strokes and racket head speed with lots of thick or thin brush, thin brush when you need to bend or place the ball with precision and keep it low. Use your body to loop the ball, not just your hand. Loop almost as if you are doing a cartwheel and see how fast and spinny you can make the ball when you do a forehand. See how much spin you can generate with that kind of stroke while keeping the ball short and slow. Then you will see that many balls you are pushing are really balls you can attack hard. Then since you move very fast, you will be able to select the balls you want to use full body loops on. And as your technique gets better, you won't need full body loops to get quality in rallies, but you will feel the use of your body when doing small strokes.
Sage advice! Much to work on for me. Thank you Sir! My challenge is that many of the club members know me by now and generally with lower-skilled players, I end up blocking for them and they know if we played a match, i generally would win so we don't play matches.

I have been working on keeping the impact point lower on my serves like Der Echte showed me when I was in D.C. and it is starting to be more habit rather than something I have to constantly think about. By reading the posts and watching the videos of the players here in this forum I have finally managed to start assimilating some better techniques and strategies. My gains have been small but I am slowly starting to gain some consistency and a stronger mental game.
Excellent Sir!!

Thanks

are you implying I have to do one now

?
DOOOOO EEEEET!!!!
