Did some more testing on R7 and the Vega Europe BH swap. I think I'm preferring the dwell time a lot more on my backhand. Definitely had an increase in spin from some of my counter shots. I've made a lot less mistakes on forehand today with the R7. Consistency is a bit off with the swap, but it'll come back.

Worked a lot in match on getting better with my pushes. Had some pretty good angles, and I think I'm starting to put together my own rhythm in match.

Just need to move to a place with a large club right by me and I'll be set.

@JeffM
you really look good on your best-of. that's why they're best-of

IMO you have already the attacking shots (FH / BH drive + opening loop, finishing FH) for the next 200-300 points of ranking.

So if I were you i would not worry about those shots anymore, and focus in priority on what we already said: footwork. and then serve/receive.

Thanks for watching my video and that compliment!

I am working on the footwork and improving my serve and fh receive.

So I drove out to the TT club on a weekday. Still waiting for Der to do Dallas since the club is in a Korean mall and has a Korean owner so we can do barbeque.

I mostly trained for the time I was there and got to hit a lot more with the Cybershape. Did an hour of countering and blocking drills with a really strong two winged looper and I think I figured out how I have to block against strong players but I just have to find the time to practice it better. I am trying to expand my backhand play but I think my shoulder has limits on what it will accept so I won't push my original idea as far as I originally wanted to, which was to be able to use the backhand to hit inside out like Crisan with very little movement. But now I think about it, I want to give hitting forehands with the backhand side of my rubber like the old Xu Xin video a try. These are just crazy ways of looking to defend my middle a little while challenging my mind.

One of the other club members I saw later seems to have caught on to Golden Tango on both sides since he likes to hit the ball extremely hard (he loop kills my heaviest backspin serve with his backhand if it drifts long, I usually beat him since he is impatient countering heavy spin on his forehand but his touch game is very annoying as he wins a lot of points on short blocks to my forehand, and they are not easy wins). It will be interesting when I play him next.

I played a lower rated Nigerian friend who I have been trying to convince to expand his game. I think my backhand shenanigans hurt my shoulder a bit as well as some reaching for forehand shots so I only felt comfortable playing backhands against him. I found it weird that I could beat him easily playing mostly backhands, but when I tried to do the same with the forehand, I just didn't have the patience or the technique to pivot and spin the serve comfortably. Something to work on for sure, maybe I should target trying to beat him in a game playing mostly forehands from both sides. It says something about my forehand stroke and recovery that I can do this with my backhand and not my forehand. My right knee is also contributing something I suspect, it hurts when I want to do aggressive forehand movements.

At a certain point, I started pushing exclusively to the lower rated player's forehand hoping he would open and then I would practice countering. What happened next surprised me - he missed push after push after push over and over. It was a good reminder of how people's games can be very imbalanced. He likes to loop heavy forehands from behind the table, but the fact he was struggling to opening on basic pushes, even if consistently heavy, was just funny to me. But that said. it is probably something he hardly practices against since most people are opening against him and he is often the weakest regular player at the club. So he isn't surviving pushing battles at his level. Growing pains I guess, but a reminder that it is hard to cheat the process.

Went back home with the Cybershape firmly my main blade. Still fighting the SZLC sirens, but I will try to use a Boll T5000 for range training with the Cybershape to get better with Koto and to improve my ability to control faster blades with grip pressure. Stay tuned...
We will get Next Level addicted to the Donic Persson Power Play and soft rubbers one damn way or another.

I think if he sees how i can really crack a BH with AURUS SOFT on that thing, he would at least explore the possibility.

I will have to research airfare to dallas from SMF... as long as NL has floor space and a bathroom with running water and a drain, I can make it out just fine.

Would be a blast to start sum trouble over there... way back in the day, 2009, I did some trouble in a Korean club in Arlington...

NL, is this club in Carroltown? I was seriously looking at houses just north of that club if it is the one I am thinking of.

It's technically Carrollton, but you can spell it how you want lol. I can't spell it in Korean to save my life.
The spelling in Korea would be way longer than normal Korean cities which are mostly two sounds.

It would go something like Kay-Loll-Taw-Oon-Uh.

That is 5 sounds and way long for a city name.

The spelling of a Korean city in Korean is quite simple and efficient. That ain't the USA, which is still the greatest country created.

Played league today. The first set of matches were round Robin best of 3. I won one 2‐0 and another 2‐1. In the next round, I faced a young guy who took me to deuce in the 5th at the tournament in May. This time he beat me 3‐2. The game got away from me in the 5th as he got more aggressive and I just couldn't establish any stable patterns.

It sucks to lose but at least the match is on video and I can see what I missed during the live match. And he clearly took his third ball chances, I do need to work on taking a step back and defending better. I have been speaking forever about serve return variety I think I am at a point where I have to just execute. Will need some dedicated time with the right training partner.

I was lucky enough to attend a week long (5 day) residential training camp last week with some top class coaches including Sam Walker, Alan Cooke (6 x Nat champ) Kelly Sibley and Nicola Deaton (both 5 x nat champs)Paul Whiting and Matt Ware (ex England no 15) as well as a few other excellent coaches.

It was full on, with over 6h of training each day, including drills, one to one, multi-ball, team tournaments and individual tournaments. Evenings were full of activities including a mini bat tournament, some top class exhibition matches and fun quizzes etc.

For anybody based in the UK or anywhere within travelling distance, there are not many better opportunities to sign up for such top level coaching and a full on week of pure focused TT - if you are keen then I would recommend to anybody the Cooke & Deaton camps - https://www.cookeanddeaton.com/

They are also available to come to clubs and offer similar coaching and exhibitions for anybody interested.

6 hours of practice in two days with another 2-3 hours left this week.

I had two hours of coaching yesterday. Worked on a lot of consistency drills on the forehand, consistency drills on when to take the bounce on the forehand side, some light movement drills, full arm loops, blocks, backhand work, and 3rd ball attack on my backspin pendulum serves. Pretty comprehensive, definitely felt like I was moving underwater and now I'm just completely exhausted lol.

When to take the bounce really clicked with me cause I was mainly focused on taking the ball immediately off the bounce and now I feel like I can start mixing it up. Finding more nuance and feeling on the rhythm of the game, at least on the mental side.

Played a couple matches using my LP thin sponge chopping bat. Gave a lot of fits to the two players I played. It was crazy.

One of the players uses a C-Pen with inverted/OX LP... now the shoe was on the other foot for this guy and he had troubles timing my LP bumps, chops, and dead balls. I also twiddled and attacked serves sometime... also sometime twiddled and BH attacked serve returns... or twiddled after first LP push... look on hiz face waz PRECIOUS and totally worth the $6 entry fee for league.

Found Sergey Scoobie Doo's bat (Donic Ovtchrv Carbon Senso with K1 rubbers) in the bleachers after league waz over. (He had to leave early due to tweeking hiz knee.

I went home and tried to put it up for sale on eBay, but the immediate feedback I got on first attempt was to not even try to sell a bat with Tibhar K1 rubber on it... so hard to generate any measurable spin it is practically anti eBay said... so they rejected my attempt to list for sale.

Go figure.

I wonder why that cat insists on continuing to use that rubber...

This week I played TT 3 times!
Tues night: local club session
Wed pm: training with nearby town mate
Today: played with old coacho for an hour

Quite happy with how I managed to get so much in a week.

My forearm is not used to such frequent playing and now bit sore.
My next session is next Tuesday.

Played yesterday although I was still a little sick and surprisingly did very well (was about 50-50 against the inverted + LP penholder) especially with chiquita and looping, all credit to Viscaria + double Dignics 05 making it so easy. I reckon i would have played a lot worse if it was any other setup lol.

I'm starting to develop a BH down the line spinny loop against long quality FH pendulum serves with a similar movement as a diagonal loop. Its a much safer stroke than the fast counter, also can be quite difficult for opponent to deal with.

Inspired by Anders Lind, I tried a couple of full stroke strawberry "loops" lol - it actually works! But my opponent was completely unphased by the spin variation :( didnt get a lot of advantage with it.

Against long fast serves to the middle, it's better to pivot and use the FH as there's a bit more room for error in timing. Still possible to use BH for fast elbow balls but it generally doesnt create a quality loop with it. Judging which balls to use BH and which balls to use FH pivot is not so easy though, i make the wrong shot choice sometimes and get punished promptly.

In general still happy with where my game is.
