Yes, and that's because losing is a big deal to ML. So the big deal influences how he plays. Like I said, if he lost more often, we would all make a smaller deal out of it, and so would he probably.

There are so many players that we've never heard of that have on their CV that they beat Waldner during his heydays 80's -90's. I'm not even certain if Waldner ever topped the averages in the Swedish league. So I wonder if ZJK, injuries notwithstanding, is more like that. That is, lesser tournaments are more for practice. Maybe even that TT is not his top priority and he likes to have a good time; girls, drinking, cars, boats.
ML in contrast seems to take every match very seriously as if he is on some sort of mission. So when he doesn't win, it's a catastrophe.

Yeah. I agree with this. It really does matter so much to ML. And it clearly does not matter as much to anyone else I can think of. Pretty much everyone else has actually had to deal with a lot more losing. So, good point NextLevel. And well explained Tinykin.

MA Long really exterminated NIWA. I felt pity for him.

Right now, Ma Long looks like he has been put into a time accelerator or something. There was this episode on the original Star Track where Captain Kirk and Dr Spoc found themselves on the ship and all the other members of the crew were still there but seemed to be frozen like statues. Kirk and Spoc couldn't figure out what had happened to them because they seemed perfectly normal and healthy. Just, still as statues. Then, they would show the crew's perspective and Kirk and Spoc had somehow disappeared. And every so often the crew would hear these whizzing sounds buzzing around them. Well, eventually Spoc and Kirk figured out that, somehow, they were just moving a million times faster than everyone else so everyone else seemed like they were standing still.

ML looks like that in warmups and during the randomness of match play right now. Either he has been doing a lot of Crystal Meth (speed) or he has been doing A LOT OF MULTI BALL. He is really playing stronger than I have seen him before.

I think Kaii Yoshida has the best chance for advance. Maybe because Freitas is the poorest of all these 3 opponents in my opinion. Also Kaii beat Mizutani not long ago and looks pretty solid.

You are spot on Sali.:). Yoshida has serious trouble receiving Freitas serve but still manage to win 4:1. Well done for the last surviving samurai of one side penholder.

Both Germans played like crap...Understandable in Bolls case, but not so much in Dima's. He should be in his peak years now - yet he looked slow, clumsy and his shots lacked quality (spin/placement/speed). For me, looks like the coaching and training regime is ALL wrong there right now.

Samsonov won the veteran's match. Boll was out of form and missed too much, especially from BH.
Ovtcharov is underperforming, but on the other side I feel Chuang is playing better and better as he ages. To me, his BH technique has changed for the better in recent years, and when his fitness is good as ever as today, he demonstrates few humans can beat him... (MA Long and his peers are NOT human !!!!)

Dima's problem is his adaptability to the opponent. He always tries to carry out the same serves/receives and attacking routines, and when thing do not workout he gets frustrated and takes poor choices. Its not about the training regime, he is doing the same thing he has done when he won against ZJK or winning 2 times the european champion, it is a matter of personality/mentality and dima does not have what it takes to be great

This definitely made me laugh. Thanks for a great comment.

The semi-finals matches should be excellent.

I have a feeling, on either side of the draw the semi-finals will be better than the finals.

I feel like German open should be like a warning call for Germany. Boll and Ovcharov both got knocked out by two non Chinese players. Both Chuang Chih-yuan and Samsonov played very well and I congratulate them for their win (no hate), but since WTTTC is coming up and Olympics are coming up, and I believe Germany is 2nd seed at WTTTC, they do have to step up their game people have high expectation for them.

Just my personal thoughts.

Oshima and Yoshimura had good form in 2015 but in early 2016 they seem to be underperforming.
but if they get back to last year level, i believe Japan is a better team than Germany.
Germany's 3rd player (Franziska or whoever) is one level behind.

Korea can always be a threat, but JOO is getting too old, JUNG and LEE and CHOI have seesaw results.

Then it all depends who meets China first...

I beg to differ, I don't think Dima played like crap, looks like Chuang is in super human form right now. If he manages to get through Samsonov he will give the Chinese some trouble. Samsonov plays way better than you think it is when you you look at his matches, he has a completely different style. Don't forget he gave Xu Xin hell of a fight just recently , beating him is going to take something special and timo is just making a come back from a knee surgery, so have patience . I am expecting two cracking semi finals and a final as surprising as the one played in the women's singles in Australian open where Kerber beat Serena , rooting for underdogs !
