Usually when I am 10-0 front, I win 11-0 or I give lots of points (about 4-7) . It depends on my opponent.

Really does depend on who it is to. A genuinely weaker opponent, give em a point in a subtle way. If its to someone you know can beat you but you have simply out played them this game, or someone obnoxious, scrap em 11-0!!

Well if you're winning 10-0 I think it's respectable to give them a point or at least a fun exhibition point. I saw a game with Vladimir vs Kim Taek Soo and he gave kim a point winning 10-0

I was just discussing this issue with some tournament folks, one said instead of thinking in pwnage terms, why not give the weak player handicap points where level see fits ? Say if player A has 80% confidence level of winning, Player B starts with 8 points. That will results: 1) Stronger player will be forced to play in their level. 2) Weak player gets fair treatment and better chance to learn. 3) mental preparation for both players. The list could go on and on. And I agree with this totally, if skill offset is that much, whats the point on KO with 11-0 ?

Off topic: best of 5. If you have a sure 3-0, would you do it ? Or let one go by ?

Very good match! But should this guy be a little bit more generous to his opponent?

Usually I gave away a point because of respect ..... but when the oppenent is very rude, I want to win 11-0 and enjoying the oppenents face after that
sorry for my english :D it's late ;)

+1 I agree :D

I recall a 2004 Timo Boll vs. Ma Lin match, where Ma Lin dominated Timo to the point of leading 10-0. It was obvious that Ma Lin tried to miss his serve, but it happened to accidentally clip the edge. Ma thought he lost the point (which was what he intended) and looked geniunely surprised when Timo, being a good sportsman, pointed out that it hit the edge. Timo took the 11-0 skunk like a true man LOL

Even Ma Lin, one of the world's most ruthless players, feels pity for his opponents :D That just shows that in the pro stage, it's unofficial etiquette to give the opponent a point when leading 9-0 or 10-0. The gesture is just one that shows some respect (although I know a few people who might be offended if you "give" them the point).

well if ur confident with it, u shud just finish them off cos sometimes once u lose the momentum even if it is really unlikely, you cud end up losing or being put under more pressure when they start gaining on u.

I hate the consensus view every time this topic comes up. It is way more humiliating and disrespectful to give someone a point. You are compounding two problems by doing so: you are making it even more clear that your opponent is unable to earn a single point on their own merit and second, that the point they do have was not earned but donated.

When I play someone whose level is astronomically higher than mine, I want to get destroyed. I want them to play at their full effort and experience their level of play and try my best to earn each single point by trying out different tactics or trying to identify opportunities. Those are some of my most treasured experiences in playing and surprisingly hard to come by. If 11-0 is a true reflection of the game when both people are truly playing, then what shame is there in that? I don't see any at all.

When I play someone whose level is way below mine, I place constraints on myself, but still always play full effort. A common example is lower level players often have difficulty dealing with serve variation so I will get rid of that and pick one serve to use every time, commonly long backspin to backhand side. Or maybe I will think to myself, try to extend rally to at least 2 shots before allowing myself a loop or otherwise offensive stroke. Using these constraints and varying the amount of them I can make sure I adjust my level of play as to prevent the score from ever reaching 11-0 but at the same time never lowering my level of effort. This seems contradictory to the way I wanted to be treated in the reverse situation but in a non-tournament setting I have found this to be a good way to maintain the respect level. In a tournament though I don't hold back at all, for the same reason I stated previously.

You can beat someone 11-0 respectfully. It is all about how you carry yourself. I find that the "too nice" people are more annoying than the people who recognize the reality, carry out the game, and finish the game in a straightforward manner.

Fearing the 11-0 on either side is immature. For the winners consider that the losers don't want your pity. For the losers, it should fuel the motivation from savoring the experience of a level of play that is hard to come by in normal playing.

i was always giving 1 point when i was 10:0 until i played with my club mate. Hes a good player, normally he beats me more often than i win. i had 10-0 and gave him a point, and every next point he's made, it was harder for me to play.. my psychic isn't good enough for relaxing.. i need to be focused all the time... i lost 10-12 ;D every time when i win 10-some and i lose point, it is vary hard for me to get the final point ;P i have lost several matches because of this ;]

sry for my english im only 17 and its late here in Poland ;)
