So anybody who does not agree to your world view is "mentally retarded" according to you.

Not sure about your english competence or your understanding of what is right and wrong, but this is wrong on many levels and is enough to get you banned from the forum.

Coming back to your argument, yes there are fans of Samsonov like me who like to see him compete in actual international competition ... the guy was about to win a olympic medal last year for heaven's sake and the very next year you guys are clamoring for his retirement.

My English may not be correct about use of phrases as such. Nothing personal to anybody. I have followed Samsonov for last 15 years and am myself a big fan of his and consider him a legend of the game. He used to challenge JVO and the mighty chinese is his hey days and I rooted for him. I am saying nobody in sane mind would want his childhood hero to lose regularly. Is there anything wrong with that ???

Even ZJK won a silver in Rio and XX won so many world tour titles last year but you know the story now.

Its has got nothing to do with being personal , you can't call people who don't agree with you insane . You have to understand that people might have other viewpoints than yours and they are of sound mind may be more so ...
I just wanted to tell you that you are reacting disproportionately to arguments which you don't like and the reaction is not acceptable in this forum. People have tried to reason with you and you have failed to see the reason with their arguments, I don't want to spend my time trying to make you see sense .... lets just agree to disagree is all I am saying ...

Nothing wrong to have that opinion but your statement is a bit black and white. Many people including me would rather see them play and enjoy themselves, regardless of results. If you actually see them as your hero or are a fan of them then you should be happy for them regardless. Of course it's more enjoyable to watch them play well and win but some people are happy to just see them playing even if they lose more than they used to. Is there anything wrong with that?

If you like to see people play, then to some degree, you have to accept the winning and the losing. One of the ways I knew Ma Long as becoming more mature was the way he responded after Freitas pushed him. It was 4-1 with three easy games and two tough games at the end. After the match, Ma Long said Freitas is a top player and 4-1 is a normal result.

Samsonov is still playing at a top 20 level even with more losses than before. He is still the best player in Belarus. He went out in the same round as Dima and lasted one round longer than ZJK. If he hadn't played LSS, he may still have gone one more round with a draw against someone like Niwa.

Lets answer some quick FAQs :

1. Is Samsonov finished ?
Yes . Please read the thread for his recent competetive results.

2. Should Samsonov retire ?
It is his wish and depends on making a living and so on...

3. Do fans like their legends to lose ?
No. If somebody does then he might be mentally retarded

4. Do fans love to see him play ?
Yes . Exhibitions (anytime).

I made a comment as a forum member earlier in the thread. It was satire about the irony of how, if we take your attitude to its logical conclusion everyone but FZD and ML should retire.

But now I am speaking as one of the moderators of the forum.

Drunix, if I was you I would stop arguing with everyone and drop the subject. No, let me say it differently: drop the subject now. No more posts from you on the subject. Everyone has already heard your opinion. Somehow you just refuse to hear that other people disagree and they have a right to their opinions.

So, no more.

I didn't read page 3, but good on Mr Mod.

Anyways, Samsonov had a great WTTC
he surely still has it in him to continue peaking in the highest level in the world.
Not many players (young or old) today can reach that level
Surely all Samsonov fans should wish he continue to show how good he is on the table

So that means if Vladi plays FZD , it would be -4:0 ? Hilarious, there is such a think as match up in table tennis , also it depends on how good you play in that one hour ... if that is the case ZJK pretty much beat everybody in their internal matches , why did he lose to LSS ... pointless argument ...

Meanwhile, it sounds similar to the story of the three ZJK, WH, and ML. No matter how ZJK was beaten time to time by ML, because WH defeat ML and ZJK defeat WH, so crazy girl fans on TTD scream out loud that ML was No. 3. Sick logic?

No, no and no. Get a hold of yourself. So he's not in the top 10, holy hell that means he's finished. He made the last 4 of last year's Olympics and still made the last 16 at the WTTC this year before losing to a very on-form Lee Sangsu. On any given day Samsonov can still beat players ranked above him.

If you think he's finished just because he's lost a few matches here and there then you really don't understand this sport at all. Ma Lin lost to Liventsov and Robinot in 2011 and people said he was 'finished' he carried on playing and his form came back. At over 40 years of age do you really expect a player to ALWAYS be able to perform at their best?

The fact of the matter is that Samsonov can still produce world class results and is still competitive on the World Tour and in major events. If you think he's finished just because of a small handful of results then quite frankly you really don't know what you're talking about.

This is an important point one I can speak to with some authority (on account of my age ;)). With aging you have good days and bad days, and as time goes your bad days increase in frequency, and a lot of this is just physical. Fatigue, pain, injury. But on good days you can be really really good, still, but not as consistently so. And Samsonov can still be really really good, and one reason for not wanting him to retire is to watch him knock people off from time to time. Make no mistake, even now there is nobody in the world who doesn't think of him as a dangerous opponent. Samsonov in good form cannot take down Ma Long or FZD. But I think he is capable of beating anyone else. If you don't want to see your idol lose, you must be really delicate.

random thoughts:

-As long Samsonov doesn't exit in the first round on a regular basis, then I think he's safe.

-Watching your heroes lose to opponents I've never heard of can be painful. I remember when Wang Hao lost to Steffen Mengel. His glory days were officially over at that tournament.

-It wouldn't surprise me if Samsonov made a terrific head coach for Belarus.

For the record, ttmonster's English is prolly his 3rd language. For the record, many Americans will fall to shame trying to compete vs ttmonster's command of both written and spoken expression.

I will bet lunch for the next year (that will be a SIZEABLE lunch tab) that ttmonster will win in any sort of English consted blindfolded with a hand tied behind his back as Americans would say.

I only wager lunch when I want to eat for free + am well assured of the fact, or I just want to buy lunch.

This is NOT a case of Der_Echte trying to buy anyone's lunch. Anyone eating with me for lunch can know that I will run a restaurant out of its on-hand inventory in a single sitting.

Does Samsonov have a son or daughter? I would love to see him coach them to professional tt players!!
