And again yesterday...
There was a straightforward reason why he got traded - on the last weekend of the regular season with his team still in contention, he wasn't in the mood to play matches and that set his team back completely and left the order in shambles with 2 now playing 1, 3 now playing 2 etc. He was open to playing on Sunday after the team was already eliminated. Obviously, you have ruined your relationship with the coach when you pull a stunt like that.

To be fair, he might say he was injured. But regardless, it ruined the team's chances.

Yeah, and that's only one of the examples of a recurring issue. There was one weekend where he didn't make himself available to play for no legitimate reason and Portland was dominated in all three matches including one near sweep (1-20 versus Carolina) that put them in a massive deficit to overcome, the final weekend was icing on the cake.

With the way Kumar is playing for Portland now and Kou up to these shenanigans again this past weekend, not a bad trade for Portland.

If there were a Most Improved Player Award, I can't think of anyone better than Nikhil to give it to. He's become the Paddler's de facto ace player and is #6 on the Power Rankings. Effective doubles player and has been great in the Golden Game.

I think Duran would also have to be in that discussion. It is also impressive how Nikhil has managed to maintain his level as a student at a demanding college, while many others have been unable to do so. Obviously being just miles from 888 helps in that regard though.

Having a lefty doubles specialist, who is an American citizen, who rises to the occasion in the GG and is an emotional leader is invaluable. Going to be a race to the finish in the West to make the playoffs.

Qualifying for the World Cup via Pan Am Cup might have major implications on the MLTT Finals as the World Cup starts the day after the MLTT Finals.

Eugene, Jouti, Amy, Lily, and Mo Zhang are all on teams who might qualify and are all headed to Macao.

One interesting thing with a French Pro A club that told me yesterday, when we were talking about leagues,
they labeled the MLTT as a "private leagues, like the MLTT in America"....

I guess that is indeed a correct definition.
It is private and has no affiliations to national federations, compared to other leagues out there.

Just a reminder this is an MLTT weekend featuring Portland Paddlers, Carolina Gold Rush, Florida Crocs, and Texas Smash. Big weekend for the Texas Smash and the Portland Paddlers looking to secure #1 in the west. I think Portland is going to have to play mostly Rachel this weekend. For whatever reason, Kotomi Omoda cannot handle Hong Lin at all. You can let her play the Florida Crocs, Matilda Ekholm, where she does really well, but Rachel will be better against Hong Lin and Amy Wang. So Rachel for the Paddlers needs to step up big time, but so doesn't Amy for the Smash. Amy has been hot and cold all season.

I've really enjoyed watching MLTT on their YT channel this year. Team formats in TT are the most interesting. I like that guys & gals get to compete against one another. A fun league to follow.

A big part of the reason is that Hong Lin is simply a higher level player than Omoda is.
Though I agree that Hong Lin is a better player, Omoda should be high enough level to get 1 game out of 6. She got swept in both of their matches. In fact, Omoda's only losses in the singles matches this season were the 2 to Hong Lin. She is 8-2 and technically has the highest Spindex rating among females at 2613.

Next to last weekend before playoffs has finished. Portland and Texas matched up on final day of the weekend. Portland actually played pretty well despite Texas being the stronger team. But the one matchup where they got beaten badly was Wei Wang vs. Jeet Chandra. Jeet wiped the floor with Wei. But even if you didn't watch the match, you just need to know that it was the only sweep of the day so obviously you want to avoid that matchup at all costs in the GG. And of course that matchup is exactly what coach Lilleroos allowed to happen. Jeet proceeded to win every point vs. Wei in the Golden Game. Just a major head scratcher.

Extra frustrating for Portland as they were trying to make playoffs this weekend after Texas already clinched. Portland would have been in a good position for the playoffs since Chicago and Texas will be missing Mo and Amy. Now, Bay Area will likely secure the second West playoff spot and knock Portland out at the final March 21-23 weekend in NJ, and play without Lily and Jouti.

When Luba is gone in Season 3, Lillieroos will be getting even more of the heat as a coach that is totally outmatched.

For semifinals, It is looking like a likely match up of Carolina vs Bay Area and Texas vs Chicago unless Princeton pulls a miracle on the final weekend.

If so, we probably have a final of Eugene-less Carolina and Amy-less Texas.

Just watched the GG draft. Putting out Haocheng first was certainly a decision. Putting Kotomi on McBeath actually wasn't a bad idea. Lillieroos if he was smart (he isn't) would have used Wei Wang as a counter pick to Hodaei or Kasahara who aren't great against choppers - Jorg put out Hodaei first, but you could see him literally trying to hold his smirk in when Lilleroos handed him the Jeet counterpick on a silver platter.

For those who didn't get a chance to watch it, the commissioner, Flint Lane, announced that NY and Atlanta will be the two expansion teams. Also, Seattle Spinners will move to LA and become the LA Spinners. They are also testing out cameras + AI software to enforce no hidden ball during the serve.
