MLTT has low revenue options for video.

Youtube streams generated little to no revenue because of low viewership.

They had a deal with CBS sports channel to show match highlights. These were shown in filler blocks with shows like cornhole and axe throwing.

MLTT most likely pitched CBS to add it to the Paramount+ streaming package.

They probably pitched to the Tennis Channel and others.

I don't blame them for trying, but so far this seems to be something that is dependent on a rich guy willing to lose money. Flint may be this generations version of Gilbert, who put on the Gilbert cup.

until there is a huge table tennis base in the USA, which they don't have, viewership would be low coming from the USA.
so do they want to target USA, or other countries for viewership?

I would push for more viewership for free, and aim to sell merchandise.
find ways to full up the stadiums by inviting school kids in to watch for free and hopefully start TT programs and grow the sport step by step and build "life long fans" from these kids.

The players already subsidize the expenses by co-payment to airfares, meals and what not and are very lowly paid in the global scale of things, so MLTT already has it very economical.
I'm not sure how much money the team owners contribute, but as with any business, trying to breakeven in the first few years is hard to impossible.

Without viewership, there is just no commercial value and the biggest income would be from tv rights.
So other than putting up a great show, viewership growth needs to be the highest priority imo.

I didn’t watch the Portland vs Carolina match but I’m wondering how would Carolina lose so bad are they missing top players?

Someone mentioned Portland had issues with top players missing last year I don’t think that’s gonna be a problem this year - they just won 3 games this weekend without their arguably #1 player Lundquist and they didn’t even play Sid Naresh most of the weekend and he’s solid… Portland has a strong squad this year no weak links so even if someone doesn’t show they’re good!!

As someone who’s tried really hard to get a Japanese T league subscription and who also watched German league.. I think making the platform a worldwide league streaming platform is great, kinda just tacks MLTT onto it in a way… they need more leagues tho before it’s worth it…

she had to reschedule/rebook her flight and only arrived in the country 4 hours before the first match.
she went 7-2 over the 3 matches.

Bad matchups and some interesting results. The Korean attacker guy Kim beat Eugene Wang 3-0 for example and Wei Wang (chopper) lost to Kang(chopper) 3-0 as well. But if Eugene had played the chopper, that would have been at least a split as Eugene eats choppers for breakfast. The golden game fixed that matchup but then Shouman brought off the bench to give extra firepower couldn't handle Nikhil Kumar in the golden game and that made it all moot.

No need for Japanese Tleague subscription that is all free now on Youtube for the livestreams. If you want to watch a replay of the livestreams then you have to pay.

Koki Niwa won 5 points in a row from down 10-6 in the deciding 3rd game against Joao Monteiro

Both matches today had one team up by just 1 point going into the Golden Game.

In his MLTT debut, Cho Seungmin had some struggles against Kou Lei early on but in the golden game, he had a sequence of winning 4 points in a row against Lei to tie the team score up, on the way to Princeton getting their first win of the season.

Slice came back from 5-10 and won in an ultimate golden point against LA Spinners!

I think it really started at 2-9 with Kaden Xu winning a golden point in the 3rd game against Robinot to avoid a sweep, then Yiran Wu won 2 of 3 against Pistej. After that, they still had to overcome a 5-point starting deficit in the golden game.

At the start of the match, Kou Lei took 2 of 3 from Koki Niwa. That was followed by Mati Ekholm winning 3 straight 11-10 games against Choi Haeeun. Choi was the one who won the ultimate golden point, with a serve that Ekholm returned long.

Slice remain undefeated on both Fridays and Saturdays, and will have their 3rd straight attempt at a perfect weekend tomorrow, against Princeton.

Blasters got blasted by Princeton Revolution lol, 17-4. Lily got half the team’s points. Lashin got the other half, winning 2 of 3 vs Olah. The golden game came down to an ultimate golden point, which Olah won vs Kim (who is coming off an injury). The Blasters did win 5 points in a row (matching what Texas and NY did last weekend), saving as many match points but came up 1 point short.
