looks like a nice arena, would like a food and beverage report during the 10-minute intermission ; )

ooh Koki Niwa vs Kasahara!

let's see if that non-sweep has any consequences...

Haocheng Wang prob most impressive of this match from what I've seen

Wow, Nandan with some amazing shots in that singles match vs Gorak. Good match and impressive performance from Nandan.

LOOOOL that Golden Game scoreline. so painful its funny. 20-1 before the taxi from Hernandez.

OMG that shot from Gardos (shoutout) at 7-7 in G3

Tao was keeping that serve in his back pocket for the Golden Point ; )

In Chicago vs NY, Eric Owens went for a mixed-gender matchup in the golden game, putting Mo Zhang against Koki Niwa. Mo ended up winning 5 of 8 points against Koki, helping Chicago overcome the 3-point starting deficit and win the gg. Poor Jessica Reyes Lai, who faced Lebesson and lost 6 out of 7 points.
I’m guessing that Niwa probably doesn’t play much against either women or short pips.

Next weekend, Texas Smash and Chicago Wind will have a rematch from last weekend, this time with Texas as the home team.
FWIW IG for the venue (ULH Event Center in Houston) shows that big weddings are also held there, in a separate part. Looks amazing overall.

NY Slice will be eagerly scoreboard watching Carolina Gold Rush for the next 3 match weekends, to see if Carolina catches up before they meet on March 14 (in Charlotte). Carolina has played just 6 (out of 18) matches so far this season, while NY has played 15. They might both be watching what Princeton does in the final weekend (March 20-22) as the host.

Last night, in Atlanta vs Chicago, Andrea Todorovic got hurt (ankle, I think) early in the golden game but fortunately was able to resume playing after the injury timeout. She ended up winning most of the team's points, going 3-4 against Lebesson while the team lost 21-5. Tashiya Piyadasa (subbing for Mo Zhang, who is in SF for the ITTF Americas Championship) got a golden sweep against Jeet Chandra. Gardos went 6-0 against Oshima. Hopefully Andrea is able to play the rest of the weekend, or else Atlanta will need to scramble to find a replacement female player (as Minhyung Jee is at the ITTF Oceania Cup in New Zealand).

In the 2nd match (Carolina vs Texas), there were also mixed-gender matchups in the golden game. Kai Zhang went 7-0 against Kayla Goodwin (subbing for Amy Wang, also in SF). It would've been interesting if they met again for the ultimate golden point and Kayla won that. Things were heading in that direction with Texas saving a bunch of match points, before Chen Sun closed it out against Liang Guodong at 20-18.

Todorovic was the hero in Atlanta vs Carolina, winning the last 2 points in the golden game after Shouman won 2 against her to tie it at 19-19.
Shouman got hurt in his earlier match and it seemed like he wouldn’t be able to finish it but he did. Angela Guan (who will be subbing for Chen Sun tomorrow) was ready to play in the gg but Alex Yang put Shouman in instead.

Chicago ended their regular season by saving a few match points (and coming back from 13-19) in the golden game against Carolina, with Cazacu winning the ultimate golden point against Guan. Now they wait 2 months for the playoffs in April. The 2 golden game losses by Carolina this weekend will hurt their chase in the East standings.

Minhyung Jee was traded I think? Blazers got Rachel Sung instead

Carolina and Princeton will play each other 2 weekends in a row. Their match won-loss records are similar but Princeton is ahead by 9 points.
For Texas and Bay Area, both were in the playoffs each of the last 2 seasons but are pretty much out of contention now. Texas could make it if they go on a miracle run and Portland collapses though that seems unlikely.
