This is 1000% a scrapbook moment for the young lad. Amazing win, he can only play and beat who was in front of him.

Not the hype but a player who is having a bad patch of play at the moment. This is a once in a lifetime moment to say the least to beat the world number 1....

Honestly it's one of those random flukes that happen sometimes. Early rounds, should win easy on paper. Never switch on and by the time you do... The engine is cold so no real power/performance.

Shouldn't happen but did.

Memory for both players to strive to be or grow stronger.

Guys, you make it sound like this kid is an average high school player. He's freaking RANKED NUMBER ONE in the world at his age bracket (under 15), just cause we haven't heard of him, doesn't mean he's an average player.

WCQ is having a really bad time, but you gotta give credit where it's due. WCQ mainly struggled with the kid's heavy spin shots, if you look closely, every time WCQ tried to counter loop, he overshoot meaning there was more spin on the ball than he anticipated.

What nonsense, no one is making it sound like he is an average player, these things need to be framed as stories that capture attention no matter how clickbaity they may seem at times. No matter how you frame it, he is still a 14 year old. Harimoto was also a ridiculously talented 14 year old as were most of the top players. Harimoto BTW beat the kid in their matchup today. When Harimoto beat pros as a 10 year old and even up to 15 year old, it was common to remind people that he was beating pros at that age! BTW, Sun Yingsha lost to a 16 year old today!

Of all the bad losses a young Chinese player has had, this is the most shocking I can ever remember. Faraji is not exactly a top junior even by non-Asian standards. A complete implosion by WCQ. He forgot how to play. There's really no way to say that Faraji did anything that should have given him trouble.
This is not true.

I think you haven't read all the comments yet, like the one you just replied to above. People are making it like this kid is an average player.

"Faraji is not exactly a top junior even by non-Asian standards."
"it's one of those random flukes that happen sometimes."
" the fact that a World #1 can just forget how to play and lose to a middle schooler"

You are right. But accept it as one of the facts of TT that not everyone is equally knowledgeable and some misinformation will come out. It would have helped if you had quoted one or two of the posts you were responding to.

Honestly... I still believe it is a random fluke that sometimes happens or maybe a better way to put it... A perfect storm of a match for the youngster to put his name out there in the men's game big style.

He will be on cloud 9 for a while hopefully.

This as I said doesn't take anything away from the amazing talent to take the win. Proper nerves of steel.

It's a total scrapbook moment. Also a massive shock to be fair. I think everyone thinks a very unexpected result.

Hopefully the lad takes the magic from the win and gets propelled further.... Only time will tell.

The same for the loser of the match. Regroup and push through tricky times on to even greater things.

Definitely interesting to follow both paths...

This is a random fluke. There's no question. It just should not happen. No matter how good a 14 yr old is, the world ranked no 1 mens player should have more than enough know how and experience to deal with whatever a 14 yr old can throw at them.
The result says everything about WCQ and his mental state at the time.
Put it this way, does anyone think the kid would beat him again if they played tomorrow?
Absolutely not. It was a lightning strikes moment and WCQ brain farted in arrogance rather than stopping and thinking, with all my yrs of experience what can and should I change right now to win this match.
And he got what he deserved.

This is not true.
Yes it is, and the people I know who are familiar with or have played against both of them are equally perplexed. We are talking about a guy in Faraji who went 3-2 a year ago with a 2200 player from the USA, and has the following record against top juniors in the last year, and not it is not a cherrypicked list:

2-4 Kawakami
0-3 E Ionescu
0-3 Kurmagaliyev
0-3 Sun Yang
1-3 Sun Yang
0-3 Essid

You are aware there is a big gap between "average player" and "not a top non-Asian junior"? Are you also aware that "junior" is not limited to U15 age group?

Where is Faraji on the U19 list? 31. In a very flawed ranking system.

It's not about a 14 year old beating Wang Chuqin, it's about Benyamin Faraji beating Wang Chuqin.

ADVERSE ENVIRONMENT.

A guy now dwelling in Astana reports a high air humidity over 60% inside the playing venue. Some rubbers would get unplayable in such a damped environment. You can see some Chinese struggling to effect a topspin stroke. You have all the answers now, be happy all.
