Not really, it depends on the coach and player. It's not about making every shot, but it works on reflexes, timing, and recognition of spin. Sometimes the ball can be top while others it could be dead. The variation is what they want you to recognize, but they up the pace of the ball to help improve your reflexes. An actual game will never be this fast for this many balls. Eventually someone will have to slow the ball down or back up for defensive shots and that is what the Chinese tactics are all about, driving someone back into a defensive position or just plain out hitting them because they chose to stay too close to the table.
