Hayata delivers on her promise. She has finally caught up to Hirano and Ito.

Whatever the case, it's about time for Hayata to step up. Li Sun actually commented at the ATTC 2017 that the CNT viewed Hayata as having the most potential.

The clock is ticking. 2023 is the year for Hayata to not just rise to the occasion, but also lead the pack. It's been 6 years since she said about surpassing them, but sadly (and starting to get awkward), she is still catching up as of this writing.

Hayata stresses again after the press conference yesterday that getting past the CNT players is a must to win a medal.

Given Hirano's condition shortly after her arrival (lost her voice due to the dry air in the fuselage during the flight , haven't looked into whether it is cold, flu or allergy), she played decently to lead most of the time in G2 and G3. She managed to creep back in in G1 after a disastrous start (0:5, 3:9, 7:9, 7:11). Like she said in the mixed-zone interview, she should've called TO in G2.

Whatever the case, reaching the R16 was her minimum goal after the draw. Playing singles only is a double-edge sword as players tend to use the court time in other events to warm up and get used to the main hall tables (training hall conditions are totally different).

Anyway, Kato is "paying the most attention to Hirano", with Ito second and Hayata third. Will see how Hayata fares against WYD next.

After meeting Hayata and seeing her train in 2016, I always saw her as the future leader of Japan.
Her training dedication is beyond the rest of the girls, and the other girls are very dedicated.

I still remember when the others rested, Hayata and her coach continued

happy for her. 1 Chinese down, another to go tomorrow in the SF and another in the Final
Japanese has done 3 in a row before, lets hope another Japanese can do it tomorrow.

What a gutsy performance by Hayata! Thank you Hina for making the semis interesting! I'll still be rooting for my girl CXT, but hope Hayata can bring her game against SYS tomorrow!

Also, don't look now, but the Chinese women's doubles pair is on the edge against the SK pair right now.... Methinks Ma Lin's reign as the women's team HC is not gonna last much longer.

OK things are getting a little rediculous

Between all the 4 possibilities

a. ML thought it was side, he let umpire decide

b. ML didn't know , he let umpire decide

c. ML didn't sure , he let umpire decide

d. ML thought it was edge, he let umpire decide

Choose the d. AND IGNORE the other 3 possibilities AND IGNORE the fact that it is umpire's call (which is, accidentally, umpire's job)

then accused ML for not have sportmanship

Seriously?

Aside in my opinion it was a side for sure (in my knowledge of physics. I know there are other opinions), I think the side or edge question is about observation and judgment, and mainly about how a umpire make decisions and how we can improve all these things.
And maybe about TT umpire system is such a huge disappointment
Some words I read make me feel who wrote them was not jumping into conclusion, but jumping into hypothesis or imagination.
Hitting the edge itself considered purely luck and players always feel sorry of that. If there is a 50-50 situation, IMO, it is correct to let the umpire decide, and it might also be a good decision to give advantage to the receiver. In the ML vs EW cases, EW hit the ball from his left side outside the table. IMHO, the ball's trajectory suggests that it was more likely to hit the side. EW protested the decision of the umpire, which is normal. ML, on the other hand, was 100% showing his professionalism and sportsmanship by letting the umpire decide.
