He has the talent, the resource and the funding to make it possible.

CNT is on a downhill trend, timing can’t be better.
I think other player also post significant threat.
So table tennis will be very interesting going forward
Yes indeed!
And when weighing up LYJ and Harimoto, I still put my money on LYJ to reach the very top.(Nr1/WC)

With Mima's loss, she gains no points as R16 is 90 pts which is the same as her current low. Satsuki Odo bypasses her in the next ratings update. So far her QF showing gives her a net gain of 50 pts (175-125) which added to her current pts of 2328 puts her so far at 2378 which is a bit higher than Mima's 2355. Satsuki is now officially the 3rd highest world ranked Japanese woman. This will be important as I suspect there will be more emphasis on international results for this LA2028 cycle. It would be great if Satsuki could confirm her ascension with a win over CXT. In any case, congratulations to Satsuki Odo for her crazy good 2024 results.

It was a great 3-1 win for Sora Matsushima over Darko. Darko came on really strong in game 4, but Sora was able to finish which is something he's had some trouble with in the past.
Darko did some Darko thing again, he's not strong enough outside of Europe. To me he's a bit overrated now.

I think he needs a better load management, like Harimoto. There are too much ups and downs, and if it's because of injuries, then they need to play 2 or 3 weeks less over the whole year.

Really starting to appreciate the game from He Zhuojia. Her reactionary blocks and shot tolerance are crazy good. So she's always inviting the first attack so that she can block it back to an uncomfortable position for her opponent. Usually able to jam them up or make them move around so much that she can force a mistake within the next couple of shots.

She has a big forehand which she maybe wins one point or so every game with, but for the most part she's just borrowing power and her winners are redirects. But she wins the bulk of her points through subtle spin variation and making you miss. There's a mind game going on here too as her opponents are trying to increase their killshot power to get it by her and she's enticing them just enough to go 100% on a ball they really shouldn't be going for.

It's a cool high-paced defender strategy that's working really well at the moment. Maximizes the attributes of a player with good reactions but are not mobile enough play further from the table or chop.

CIC seemed to have caught on to it in the 3rd game and was on the verge of turning that match around by being patient and waiting for her moments to be aggressive. Maybe players will be able to adjust to this style eventually but it's interesting to see matches like this where CIC was trying to adjust in real time.

Who is overrating Darko as anything more than a strong European player? Nobody I've heard of. There was always a likelihood Sora was going to win this match.

It'll be hard for Ito and Hirano to surpass Hayata if they can't even go further when she's not around. One of them won't get to play Champions once Hayata returns.
The prospect doesn't look good for Hayata, either. How far do you think she can reach at WTT F Fukuoka 2024 given her current shape? This season is coming to an end and she will have a hard time keeping herself afloat next year, just like Ito is experiencing right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hayata will not get back to her previous level. Seeing how she keeps her left hand down when waving at the crowd (a ton of radial/ulnar deviation like in a FH stroke), I suspect her current injury involves more than just the muscle but also the tendon and/or ligament, all of which will recover by scar formation that end up weaker than before and are prone to re-injury.
