Crazy upsets in this tournament. Never thought Lee Sang Su would lose to Omar Assar and the great European champion Darko Jorgic losing to Achanta lol, with Darko making numerous amateur like mistakes (so much that he was just pushing back long pushes!), and also Darko's half long sidetopspin serves got absolutely destroyed (I was waiting for someone to finally recognise that it's a half long serve and just attack it!)

I feel that Harimoto has improved over the past months inspired by LYJ's win at Frandfurt championship. It is too early to say that Harimoto will lose to LJK.
No one knows the future. But people who post here regularly understand the joke I am making.

WCQ has not lost a single set. How is he so fast on both wings. He almost has no weakness
Wait till someone deciphers his serve - his weakness in terms of stability in the topspin rallies will be exposed.

Hirano 2-1 -> 2-3 Ito
G1 20, 21 long serve from Hirano, 31 long serve from Hirano, 41 dead net for Hirano, 44 steparound FH from Ito on long serve from Hirano, 47, 57, 58, 78, 79, 89, 810, 811 steparound FH from Ito on long serve from Hirano

Hirano pushes many of Ito's backspin serve to her short FH into the net. Must be very spinny.
G3 01, 31, 32, 42, 45, 65 sideline edge for Hirano, 75, 76, 86, 87 dead net for Ito, 117 Ito changed to pendulum serve
Ito is starting to run out of options.
G4 10 Hiano is serving a lot of half-long backspin hook serve to Ito's BH and Ito tried to FH steparound to no avail, 40, 41, 51, 52, 62, 63, 83, 86, 96, 98 TO for Hirano, 108, 1011, 1111, 1112, 1212, 1213, 1413, 1416

Hirano vs Ito
It is clear to me that he needs to switch to Hurricane on both sides to reconnect with his destiny and fulfill the original prophecies of the TBH.

In all likelihood, there are matches where he destroyed some people's faves using only the ubiquitous simple pendulum that skids off the table

His career winning rate is on par with Fan and Ma. That doesn't come from serves alone. There are pros with trickier serves lounging in the top 100.

To me, he's got a crispier attack than most, as good a chiquita as anyone can put forth, and a more direct style that can overwhelm opponents quickly. That's his real strength. He's not worse than Fan/Ma in the rallies. He's definitely not worse than your best player.

The shovel serve is predictably always to the forehand, it can be flicked back, it does get flicked back often, the problem is actually dealing with the bomb that he detonates on the opponent on his attack.

Well, let's see how things go over d next 8 years. Let's see if it's gonna be a bull or bear run. At least 8 years is 'nuff time for others to decipher his serves, if the events of the last 3 years were not enough. 🙂🙂
Wait till someone deciphers his serve - his weakness in terms of stability in the topspin rallies will be exposed.

Late timeout for Hirano, should have called it at 8-5. Looks like she plans to secure her Olympic seeding the same way she secured her Olympic singles spot.

Yup, 8:5 was very crucial. Calling TO after that point and then losing the game is worse than calling TO in the final game as your mind still lingers on what could've been.

The positive side is that Hirano, the one under higher pressure, suppressed Ito both technically and tactically, especially the latter, after dropping G1, in which she had a good start. There have been quite a few instances in this Olympic cycle where Hirano could've won in straight games but ultimately lost.

As I've predicted, Ito has turned into Ishikawa, only getting in the way of teammates.

WTTC 2021
R16 Hirano 2-1 -> 3-4 CM (could've been 3-0)
WTT SCT Goa 2023
SF Hirano 2-0 -> 2-3 CIC
Asian Games 2022
WT F Hirano 2-0 -> 2-3 CM

Ito went into the match with less baggage for sure but was Hirano sick or something? She seemed very red, like she was having a fever and rushing to finish points, even losing out in the serve/receive game.
