Sunday 25th May 2014 will be a date that Wu Zhikang from Singapore won’t forget in a hurry as he has won the Sydney Men’s Singles Title at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour, Ozcare Australia Open (challenge). After coming runner up in the final of the Under 21 Men’s Singles event at the GAC Group 2014 World Tour Phillipines Open, losing to compatriot Chen Feng, it was Wu Zhikang’s turn to take home the gold.

The player from Singapore was seeded at number five in the main draw, and on the way to the final he was able to overcome the host nations William Henzell who was ranked at number six in an incredible semi-final duel eventually emerging victorious in four sets to three (6-11, 11-8, 14-16, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9). Meanwhile in the other semi-final Zhan Jian was able to end the Japanese hopes as he accounted for Asuka Sakai in four sets to one (10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9).
When Wu Zhikang reached the final he was looking to be on top form after an incredible performance in the previous round, he was able to continue this as he defeated the number two seed Zhan Jian in the final 4-1 (11-6, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8).
