Hi ttd, in Sweden last year I took photos of Tomokazu Harimoto's bat. He is using a modified Zhang ALC blade and no boost.

Harimoto uses Tenergy 64 on the forehand and Tenergy 05 FX on the backhand.

How can you tell what the plies are if you can't see the side?

You can kinda tell whether a rubber is boosted or not in close up by looking at the pips and how well they shine through the rubber, or if the rubber "curves" away at the edge of the blade. On top of that you can just do the smell test. If it looks like boosted and smells like boosted, it's conclusive to assume it actually is boosted.

Figuring out the plies of a blade by looking at 3 pixels resembling the handle is wizardry in my book, so idk about that.

You couldn't tell my rubber is boosted by the smell or sight..

Also tenergy wouldn't curl at the edge of the Raquet when it's boosted.

In Japan, the culture is very much against cheating
Just pointing that out.

No Butterfly logo? It looks like a custom build of some kind.

outer ply looks like limba so you might be right, but that sounds pretty slow equipment.

I can't see the composite layer where one would be expected to see it from that picture angle (based on the ZJK-ALC I am looking at right now). Not sure what it is but it's not that. If only it came with a magic transmitter that would make him shut up.

According to the Butterfly Mag

http://butterflyonline.com/tomokazu-harimoto-12-year-old-shakes-up-the-world/

He uses a custom "Innerfiber" and "Arylate carbon" blade.
Rubbers:
FH: T80
BH:T05-fx

If you read the whole article,it says that previously he used a zlf blade, so the website has probably not been updated

Japanese website has been updated to Customized ALC blade(???????? ?????????).
https://www.butterfly.co.jp/players/detail/harimoto-tomokazu.html

He could well be using something else at Nationals.
Before Butterfly, he used Yasaka Pryde and Garaxya Carbon so he's not very fussed about equipment.
In fact, he said that switching to Carbon blade from all wood blade has given him more "dwell time" resulting in spinner serves.

T64 and T-FX rubbers work better with stiff composite blades. I found them a little mushy on softer all wood ones and flexy blades can make them unpredictable a little bit.

Interesting to note he is using Tenergy 05 on the forehand this year.

Harimoto uses TENERGY 05 FX on his backhand side, he recently switched his forehand from TENERGY 80 to TENERGY 05. He also uses a Butterfly Arylate Carbon blade.

Probably part of the reason his forehand blocking is worse now. Growing pains though, nothing more.

I couldn't upload a bigger picture, but you could go to the T2APAC video on YouTube where Harimoto is playing against Alexander Shibaev. It's from the break after the first game.

maybe innerforce ALC with ZJK Alc grip

The fiber layer is definitely next to the core, but this doesn't mean it's an Innerforce. It's a custom blade. Seems like Innerforce construction, but with thinner core and thicker plies above the the fiber. But it might be a simple Innerforce.

Not thicker plies above. You confuse when see thicker plies because grey plie on the grip
