I dont want to believe that but it seems the most likely scenario to happen. I will wait to see the trials, but yeah if his foot is in bad condition with cortizone injections already I dont expect much.
My guess is if his foot does not recuperate in the next few days he will have no chance competing in the wttc. LGL will still give him chances if he takes another break to fully recover, but then the youngsters will have already gain their spot in the team. Let's see what happens, one reason I like him is that he is so stubborn


p.s. good to see him move so fast for a while against apolonia. I dont understand why the chinese dont let him be for a while, not taking part in a wttc is nothing in comparison to a whole carreer. The coaches said that his competitive spirit was in decline and its up to him. I saw glimpses of the old ZJK against apolonia so I certainly dont have the expectations of the past but I dont think he will quit so easy

always gets too excited to finish a match. Against jang woojin it was ridiculous. He managed to equalise being 9-6 down in the 6th playing perfect points like he was facing an inferior practice partner, lost two match points the set but eventually crushed jang in the decider. It could easily have gone the other way, he seems to have agood grip on the match and then he somehow loses focus or gets too impatient to finish the opponent off.

Well bacause of his injury yes we dont expect zjk so much but we again have some expectation on him and that's interesting cause this kind of feelings never happen to other players but zjk . HE IS ZHANG JIKE DONT FORGET GUYS . his persistence is peerless .
today the reason behind his exit was his fever . in spite of his fever and a little foot injury he played so well in doubles and tried so hard and against apolonia he was great and so fast like b4 . cause now he's playing for his fans . he cares so much about them . He will try so hard for WTTC as we see the chinese youngesters are criticised by liu guoliang for so many reason . I'm still waiting for him for the next tornment cause he's simply the best .

Sad to see Dima going out but you can't win every tournament

I doubt that ZJK's spot will be taken by anyone anytime soon, he is still insanely good and LGL knows that. But someone else could take his spot at wttc if he doesn't recover quick enough.

Liang Jingkun struggled but he can not go out vs a non chinese anymore (unless FZD loses to Yoshida)

For Xu Xin this is tough, his spot is definately on the line, he has to have a good showing at the trials

regarding ZJK , I am yet to watch the entire match to see exactly how he defaulted , but I think it all depends on why and the Chinese team will know the reason . If it was because of fever it should not be an issue because he will recover. The ankle is what is bothering and to hear that he is putting cortisone injection is not a very nice thing . He did look very impressing against Tiago with his footwork, especially the way he was moving to wide forehand and covering the table with his forehand , so I will still keep my fingers crossed and see what goes on in the WTTC trials . Zhang Jike is a different player and a slightly uncommon personality , LGL knows this much better than us otherwise he would not have put his bets on him in the olympics

If ZJK had fever why he forfeited the match at 1-1 first set. He could have simply not played itself if he knew the fever is that bad!!!
