yes, given how HIRANO played against LIU Shiwen (teams) or DING Ning yesterday, and how ZHU has been performing lately, its hardly a surprise that HIRANO could win this one. Still a straight sets win against the Chinese is always impressive.

CHEN Meng has performed well recently, in the trials she came out just behind DING Ning and LIU Shiwen, (tied with MU Zi ?) and now she beats LIU Shiwen, she will be a tougher opponent for HIRANO.

The mental aspect in sports is very important. 1 year ago DJOKOVIC looked unbeatable. 1 week ago, Chinese looked unbeatable, and HIRANO just won 2 in a row. Fear and confidence maybe has changed sides ? I believe HIRANO can accomplish the impossible. Another straight sets victory would be just HUGE.

Yes. Timo has done this before.

Miu's performance let me recall Timo Boll beating straightly WH ML WLQ in word cup 2005...
Maybe we can witness a non-chinese world NO.1 in the future.

Winning big titles are about peaking at the right time , may be the chinese team will peak at the world championships. I will be very happy if we see a change at the top , however, knowing the dominance they have shown in the past , lets wait till the end of the world championships before we start celebrating .. all the power to Hirano and Niwa and all the other japanese and korean talent, hoping with fingers crossed ..

hmm do you think the ball is part of the reason why the chinese are not doing well?

Obviously. Ma Long has said as much. See here:

They need more time to adjust to it, and they had a significant advantage with the old ball in terms of manufacturing and quality for their team to use. That ball was really terrible and they practiced the most with it by far.

China has not lost these Asian titles in years and has dominated past events mercilessly almost always producing both finalists. Celebrate your victories and stop waiting for the one that may or may never come.

When is Zhang Jike on ? isn't supposed to happening now ?

ZJK will take on Lin Gaoyuan at 20:00 China time tonight. Too bad the remaining 3 Chinese players has to cancel each other out before final. The step down of LGL does have its psychological impact and wrong timing on the whole team. So far China still took the Team and XD championship. Will see if they can keep the rest.
