Not just service return. Just in short game in general, Ma Long and WCQ can keep them really low and short.
Okay. Don't think I agree on that one. IT was a well played match, but Felix obviously was not as aggressive on serve return as he usually is.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit deflating that after the great WTT Champions Frankfurt, Lin Yun Ju quietly loses to the Chinese #4 in round 1 of this tournament?

I know we are used to this, but still... it should put the comments of notorious Harimoto critic, TensorBackhand, in context...

I'm sure it would break my glasses on an accidental hit :ROFLMAO:
when I was younger, I was training for a former Chinese provincial player, and top 8 player in Africa.
She changed to SP on BH for the "FUN" of it.
BH to BH rally, she comes up and use a BH hard/fast hit, ball misses the table and hits my thigh.
Ball mark (bruise) there for about 4 days.

If the camera is "coach bench height", the speed would be more realistic, but when the camera is lifted and going top down, the speed is discount by a lot

TB has a thing for TH
but I guess, LYJ is just more likable, because of his silence, compared to the vocal TH

I just watched the match btw Jang Woojin vs Ma Long and I see ML doing some shots many would deemed divine / godly. For example: JWJ will push short ( with backspin no doubt ) but ML will step in and still FH drive / topspin for a winner.

My question is it the rubber that maketh the shot or is it Ma Long that maketh the shot.

Does the clothe maketh the man or the man maketh the clothe?

Not just you. I am disappointed too.

LYJ played more conservatively in this match. In a few half long shots, instead of attacking LYJ chop back long and high. It was pretty much a suicide.

LYJ's chiquita against LJK is like banging your head against a wall, with LJK being the wall. Worse, LJK is serving with huge underspin component with low trajectories so LYJ couldnt add a lot of quality in his chiquita. And LYJ's lack of variety in his receives other than chiquita got really exposed in this game. The other thing that LYJ lacks is the variety of topspin rallying - he always has to add spin to the ball and doesn't do nasty rhythm variations like Ma Long to jam the other player.

I know the feeling - it's really annoying when you did a very difficult shot (for eg chiquita) but the opponent just blocks you down with the most basic strokes and you can't even hit the ball past the guy. Sometimes it's extremely frustrating playing good blockers like that. And when you loosen up on the offence, they will simply attack you and you pretty much lose the point.

Fan Zhendong also used to bang his head against this wall (LJK) including one really bad match in the WTTC. But after he realised the trick to playing LJK he pretty much never lost to LJK ever again.

WCQ praises F. Lebrun, saying he deserves his top 10 ranking.

LGY says he played safe towards the end of G4.

ML says it has been several years since their last encounter, that the match was rather close and JWJ had more unforced errors.

FZD says he was slow to start in G1 and Jorgic landed many shots that were out of his expectation. When asked about being 9:6 in the lead in G4, he says the cries and cheering from the spectator crowd during the point strongly disrupted his flow.

QD says he started well in G1 and G2, and LSD played well in G3 and G4, and so he focused on taking G5 after that.

LJK says he came prepared, played well in G1 and G2 and his initiative gave LYJ quite a bit of pressure.

One major reason why LYJ won the title in Frankfurt was his fast switch between fh and bh and his excellent rally in mid distance.

Sadly in the match yesterday LJK exposed LYJ’s slow switch between fh and bh

I've been in awe of this particular shot of Ma Long for quite some time. I'm not sure any other player attacks such short balls with his forehand with such consistency. I think Felix tries this too (but his grip is better suited for this though so can't really compare)..

I think if LYJ matched against LJK in Frankfurt he would have lost too. LJK is a different kind of player, you just cannot hope to win by blasting topspins at him - it is precisely what his game is designed against. LJK's weakness is against ppl who can disrupt his rhythm and give him weird af shots because his footwork is relatively slower and he is less flexible than his peers. It was funny to see FZD realising he could just stand close table and placement block/counter LJK to win...
