Just got words from Paris is that the heat is a huge problem for many players
shuttle bus is so hot, even with handheld electric fans.... the players are arriving at the hall all sweaty
well come to aircon free olympics
i'm not sure if officials are in the same "energy saving" games as the athletes.

Ovtcharov chose to stay in a hotel instead of the village because he didn't want to ride the 14km to the arena in the shuttle bus without AC.

The rooms for media do not have A/C. So likely the same for umpires and referees.

Thus is normal in Olympic games, especially for sports where the host has a favorite. The competitors have either have to find their own living spaces to be more comfortable or fight both the sport and the living conditions to get into medal form. Most well paid and sponsored athletes only stay in the village if they have a reason to.

Answer so far: other than different serve patterns, absolutely nothing.
The score at Tokyo 2020 was -4, -7, -4, -6. Compare that with -9, -10, -7, -7 here at Paris 2024. It was ugly 3 years ago but he had a fighting chance in the first 2 games this time.

Oh he did better - he wasn't as embarrassed in serve and serve return. But the game score was unchanged. And given that LYJ has had injury and form issues of his own, I am okay saying little changed.

JWJ (8) 4-0 Togami (10) (7, 16, 10, 9)
Togami is back to I-prep-for-Harimoto-year-round mode.
I didn't get the chance to watch it live (screw NHK for that "content unavailable in your region" even with vpn) but judging by all the roasting on 5ch, looks like it's a normal Togami loss (tactic-less play and spineless in keypoints)

How does WCQ loss against foreigner rank up against the casualties of CNT of the past in terms of how big the "sin" is and the impact of the loss on CNT and the player himself/herself?

The list is only from 2003 till now:

(1) 2003 WTTC - Wang Liqin and Kong Linghui (Werner Schlager) and Ma Lin to Joo Sae Hyuk (Last non-China world champion)
(2) 2004 Athens Olympics Gold Medal Match - Wang Hao loss to Ryu Seuing Min (Last non-China olympic champion)
(3) 2005 WTTC - Hao Shuai loss to Michael Maze
(3)2005 World Cup - Wang Liqin, Ma Lin and Wang Hao all loss to Timo Boll
(4) 2009 World Cup Semi Final - Ma Long loss to Vladimir Samsonov
(5) 2010 WTTTC Final - Ma Long loss to Timo Boll
(6) 2010 WTTTC Final - Liu Shiwen loss to Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei (Last non-China women team world champion)
(7) 2011 Team World Cup - Wang Hao loss to Dimitrij Ovtcharov
(8) 2012 London Olympics Semi Final Team Event - Zhang Jike loss to Timo Boll
(9) 2013 WTTC - Ma Lin loss to Kenta Matsudaira
(10) 2014 WTTTC Final - Zhang Jike loss to Dimitrij Ovtcharov
(11) 2016 Rio Olympics Final Team Event - Xu Xin loss to Jun Mizutani
(12) 2017 WTTC - Zhang Jike loss to Lee Sangsu
(13) 2017 Asian Championships - Ding Ning, Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng all loss to Miu Hirano
(14) 2017 World Cup - Ma Long and Lin Gaoyuan loss to Timo Boll
(15) 2018 WTTTC Final - Liu Shiwen loss to Mima Ito
(16) 2019 WTTC - Xu Xin loss to Simon Gauzy (resulting in no all Chinese final since 2003 Paris WTTC)
(17) 2022 WTTTC - Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin loss to Tomokazu Harimoto
(18) 2024 WTTTC - Ma Long loss to Lee Sangsu, Wang Chuqin loss to Jang Woojin, Sun Yingsha loss to Ayhika Mukherjee, Chen Meng loss to Hina Hayata
(19) 2024 Paris Olympics Round 16 - Wang Chuqin loss to Truls Möregårdh (resulting in no all Chinese final since 2004 Athens Olympics)

Feel free to add if I left some impactful losses by the time frame or even pre 2003
Responding to this now because it has just sunk in. This is the first CNT Olympic singles loss, man or woman, since 2004. I guess four is an unlucky number in Chinese for a reason. If things had been business as usual this time round China would have gone two decades and four Olympics unbeaten in singles. Truls really did something here.

As for the significance of those losses I'd say it's Olympics > World Champs > World Cup > Regionals. Olympics is the most significant because you're essentially chosen to secure your half of the draw for these quadrennial games.

Uniqlo has Roger Federer sponsored, seems like they're making more moves towards their sporting line of clothes.

why sweden and not japan? because Asics and Mizuno probably has a chokehold on their market.
Actually, Uniqlo is sponsored the entire Swedish team, not only table tennis, but all sports. In Sweden they usually sell the apparel for all sports to one brand, in Rio and Tokyo, H&M sponsored the whole Swedish team.

we just need FZD to crash now... actually there is a good chance. HARIMOTO is in great form. and even JHA could surprise.

SYS and CM will also feel stressful if their opponents fight well.

With the current situation, who do you think will be the Top 1, 2 and 3? Being realistic and not fanatical, my true opinion remains, calderano will take the top 3. But if FZD loses to Harimoto and Harimoto loses to Lebrun, I think there's a good chance to Calderano will be in the top one!

Hey guys,

Where online or on what stream do you watch live table tennis from Paris? VPN not a problem.

Thanks!
Australia, 9now seems to be the top recommendation. But I have also got recommendations of a free link.

Wish we can buy them from Uniqlo website but all they do is showing us pictures lol
