True enough, it'll be interesting to see what no she makes it to at the end of next season.
Hopefully she plays Shin Yubin, see if she can take another top 10 scalp for now.
Do the Olympics singles as part of team event count in any way towards a players ranking points?

Germany will have to get the ABC team for her to have a good chance of playing Shin Yubin. That is what we should be hoping for and even then, she would still have to beat Lee Eunhye, which should be a given with the level displayed so far, but no certainty in TT as this tournament has revealed (other than Chinese gold lol).

And so far, no, no ranking points for Olympics teams matches though they could try something like what they did in Busan. But haven't heard anything about it.

Just watched highlights of Harimoto Källberg again.
Källberg was 0-2 and 2:3 down in the 3rd when he took his minute.

Just what the £∆¢¥ did they say to him during that timeout?
Seriously, they should make a movie out of it! 😂

The Men's & Women's Team Final is a foregone conclusion.
The exciting ones are found in the Bronze Medal Match.
One the Men's side is JPN vs. FRA
While on the Women's side is GER vs KOR

A very special mention with respect to the GER WT; they brought their Team B and still manage to go to the SF. Now this is a movie worthy story. I hope they make a movie out of this extraordinary run. Anette taking two Singles match off the Indian is legendary!

Would be injustice to Annett if true

I just heard Felix is switching to short-pips shake hand for bronze medal match. Must read the forum. Also will definitely not celebrate the bronze medal victory if it occurs out of respect for his opponents.

And here is why I keep telling Ito and Hayata to retire when they play like crap.

If she's that injured they can always play Kihara. There's a reason they keep pushing Hayata
yeah, too many on ttd thinking they know better than the pros.

I kinda wanted JPN to play Kihara too after Hayata did her job and took the bronze medal match.

But to be honest, it's worked out pretty well for team JPN to play Hayata in teams. She's only had to play doubles, which means she's using her injured arm way less. Being responsible for half of the hitting, and being involved in 3-0 and 3-1 wins rather than 7 game singles marathons is a huge difference in workload.

Keeping a R/L pair in doubles, and getting a solid if not optimal performance level from an injured Hayata seems like a safer bet than rolling the dice on Kihara who hasn't played any matches and wasn't doing the specific training in preparation for this event.

Of course the argument on the other side is that KIhara is well rested and just a solid doubles player regardless, so I'm sure it wasn't a one-sided decision.

What I find hilarious though is holding the position that Hayata is both incredibly dumb (and all the JPN coaching staff know it), but also that she holds enough power and clout that coaches have to bow down to her "selfish" decision to play.

Both are absurd positions but it's an order of magnitude more absurd to believe both at the same time. At least pick one lmao

sadly, that is sport for you and then you wonder why players can't be too close to forums, or fans, or public.

the decision turns out good - wow, good call, well done injured player
the decision turns out bad - fire the coach, player must retire, make way for next generation

sadly, we don't know of the real decision behind it.
all these PR, are only half truths sometimes, with maybe the full truth hidden from the public for various reasons.

Well, for someone to call anyone that, meaning they must have the ability or a track record of being better.
in this case, amateur vs pro... so the gap is just far too difference.

I guess I was too early to say that people will be quiet about Hayata for a while (after she took the bronze). The quietness only lasted few days.

And also, this kind of hate towards Hayata, to me is very close to cyber bullying....if not it already

As what a friend said about these people... if you know better, then why don't you go and take on the job (in this case head coach of JNT) ;)

Kaufmann came back from 1-2 in games and 3-7 down in the 4th to beat Cheng I Ching at this year's Contender Doha. She was blasting any serves and popups that were the tiniest bit loose just like she's been doing at the Olympics. Feels like Shan was selected over Kaufmann for seeding purposes if anything else since the latter is still ranked in the 100s.

She lost to Jeon Jihee who was able to give her less opportunities and counterattack in the quarterfinals 0-3. Wonder if Korea will take this into account and swap Jeon and Shin's singles positions.

Kaufmann also beat Nina in 2023.

Annett achievement and tournament track record actually is very close to my heart.
Europe and Asia is the 2 biggest continents, and to do well within, is very difficult. While the other continents - it is way easier.
Germany is a big TT country, it just isn't fair when there are quota limitations for continent or country, when you are part of a big one.

Clearly, based on this Annett does not have enough game time.

I'm not sure when Annet has decide to go fully pro (and not take part in Youth),
but within German senior and certain WTT quota, Annet has domestic challenges (queue).

This queue equates to time.... some times some players don't have time to wait. Some of them have no choice.

Annet's OG story is just beautiful, sadly, it merits zero individual ranking points... which is sad.

her "background story" (of what I just listed) is very close to me with a couple of TPE juniors, that also struggle to peak due to such quotas. One of them is Feng, the other is a current WR U19, no3 (who has no WTT Senior game time).

This is true, within China (where failures there become top players in the world with other countries flag). And the same with many of the top TT nations within Europe and Asia.

That is life of athletes...

I wonder if the spectators watching the table tennis matches live during the Olympics in France were TT enthusiasts or simply cheering for their country. It's actually an intense and exciting sport that deserves to reap the rewards of a bigger audience, and France was clearly more excited with the home advantage and the crowd, which is an advantageous state to be in.

I don´t know but in Sweden we have caught some kind of TT-fever!! Everybody talks about table tennis, the news pappers are full of articles. This has not been the case in Sweden for many many years (since the golden era).

It may just reveal what makes a sport rise to the top of a country, and those spectators carrying Swedish flags are at least half the credit for Sweden's natural performance at this year's Olympics🤣

I think people are very mistaken to think Hayata dumb. IMHO she is very smart tactically, with a great focus on what is needed to win. In matches she mostly adopts a smiling image even in pressure situations. She is even better at this than MIMA ITO. It's a useful psychological ploy which quite a few of the japanese girls use as a relaxation tool which has a side benefit of unsettling opponents. Behind the grinning facade is a sharp tt brain
And her wrist sprain? It must be a slight sprain which is responding to treatment in which case team Japan were right to field her to give team best chance of medal

precisely.
if she isn't smart, she won't be that high ranked.

no one beats LYJ's coach in this!

I do feel sad for Mima ito, miyu Kihara miyu Nagasaki and Hitomi Sato . It seems their time at the top may finish too soon. World TT does not yet generate big enough prize money for players to operate as individuals on the World Tour like Swiantek and Osaka on the Lawn Tennis Tour. Until that happens TT pros are at mercy of WTT and their national associations. That is a change I would love to see, but I am not holding my breath!

Annett didn't play much this year because she was busy finishing school. She wants to go full time pro now.
